Set in the village of Hamme, a 10-minute drive from Dendermonde, the small Hotel Het Zoete Water is housed in an Art Deco building surrounded by a peaceful garden. Offering an on-site bar, this hotel also comprises a garden terrace and free access to WiFi and parking. Each room will provide you with a flat-screen TV, air conditioning and a minibar. An unexpected gem of a hotel in Hamme!
The whole property was spotlessly clean, and the decor of the public areas was modern and tasteful without being "cold". We stayed in the one suite that the hotel offers, and it was huge, with a bathroom that had a double sink unit , a bathtub and a separate walk-in shower. We really appreciated the fact that there was hot water at all times because , even though it was June, the weather was cool and changeable . . . and we are from California, so we felt chilly on arrival.
However, when there was a brief period of sunshine, there was a cute balcony, which was big enough to accommodate two seats and a small table.
Another feature we remarked upon that was refreshing in these days when even the luxury hotels where we have stayed recently are stingy with the toiletries and towels provided, there was an abundance of both at Het Zoete Water!
The suite had a small refrigerator and a safe, and although there was no in-room coffeemaker, restaurant- quality coffee and tea making facilities were available in two areas of the hotel on a 24 hour basis to dispense free hot beverages.
The breakfast buffet had a good choice of cold cuts , cheeses, fruit, yogurts and cereals, and, although that was enough for us, An offered to make us eggs if we had had wanted a hot meal!
We shall definitely stay there again if we visit our friends in Hamme at some future date!

Good service but slightly missing the mark
The hotel looks like it has been recently refurbished and was very clean with lovely original dark Oak features. I had the suite (room 14) and it was very spacious with a well stocked mini bar (at extra cost) and plenty of toiletries in the bathroom.
The room decor is a bit confused, kind of Thirty's Art Deco meets Sixties retro but it made no difference to me. The shower was a little slow but I managed to wash ok.
The only two issues I had was when I arrived the toilet had clearly not been cleaned and still had some remnance from the last occupant's stay. Also I thought the breakfast was limited and the fruit was aged.
I don't think I would return, but then that is only because it's unlikely I will be visiting the area again.
I cannot fault the service at this hotel.

Just for the night
Kamers zijn ruim en proper. Verwarming een beetje ingewikkeld.
Ontvangst gezellig en heel behulpzame gastvrouw.
