Friendly hotel, rooms are basic but fine for a night.

Not worth repeating.
After a bike ride through French Flanders from Watou in Het Wethuys we have a hot meal. Friendly welcome, were allowed to choose a table...
Noisy gang (5 pers.) was shouting and talking loudly next to us. Too bad. A lady gave goose the cause of depression and trauma, for the rest we got to know the caress of Benidorm...
A restaurant is not a pub !!! We ordered 2x the menu at 18€ anyway.
My wife's fish was tasty, the salad fresh, few fries, delicious tweezers of white wine, nice coffee.
My beef on the house, on the other hand, was 'miserable !!!' Warm and warm on top (so reheated), five pieces of meat and the rest a greasy nibbled sauce. I daresay this stew probably came from a cannery box.
The fresh two Omer beers were nice and fresh, the coffee was delicious.
Drinking a pint is OK there. But it is not a quiet pleasant restaurant.

disappointing
After previous positive experience, we have a different story this time. Our, more expensive, room was adjacent to a roof terrace with playground equipment in front of the door. The glass of the door and window were taped. Worse still was the connection to the adjacent room, a door through which all the noises of the neighbors were absorbed up to and including heavy snoring during the night. The synthetic, heavily fabric softener scented, bedding did not help in this warm night. For breakfast even a Stayokay would be ashamed: no fresh juice, egg, choice of cheeses, yogurt without sugar, etc for 20.00 p.p. For a total of 160.00 for two people there may be better places with a more polite manner. The second night we booked off. We really expected something better from a hotel that positively connects with the Arts Festival as a sponsor.

Weekend Break
Stayed Het Wethuys 17&19 Sep 2022 whilst touring the WW1 battle fields. We received such a warm welcome from Barbara (who speak excellent English) at this lovely little family run hotel. The hotel is located right in the middle of Watou, very close to beautiful country scenery remote from the large towns but not too far if you wanted to take a drive. There is free parking opposite the hotel in the small cobbled market square. If you are there for B&B, there is a do it yourself buffet style breakfast that was more than adequate and excellent starter for the day. Continental breakfast, a great range of fresh bread rolls pastries, selection of meats and cheese, preserves, eggs (cook your own eggs (boil or fry), toast, yogurts, tea, coffee and orange juice. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the evening of our stay and our meals were excellent and good value. We had a really enjoyable stay and hope to go back in the near future, would definitely recommend this hotel.

A very enjoyable stay
This is a lovely little family-run hotel with very friendly and charming staff. The beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, lots of different cheese and hams etc. We did not have dinner here during this stay but we have in the past and the food was excellent too. The hotel is located right in the middle of Watou, very close to beautiful scenery and within walking distance to the nearby St Bernardus Brewery and Bar. There is free parking opposite the hotel in the small market square. The hotel owner speaks excellent English and is happy to explain the about the history of the hotel to visitors. A lovely stay - we hope to go back soon.
