Restful retreat outside Lisbon
The highlights:
We were upgraded to a bigger room with an absolutely stunning balcony and view of the pool and golf course.
The outdoor pool was pristine and we never had to fight for chairs because of the ticketed towel system, which I’ll take any day so people aren’t saving seats when they’re not actually at the pool. There was also a small indoor pool great for rainy days or just a heated option.
The breakfast was included for us and it was the biggest and freshest hotel spread you can hope for! Everything was lovely. I appreciated that they had many gluten free options as a celiac.
There was a spa on-site but we did not use.
The lowlights:
Because of the room upgrade, we ended up with a pull-out bed in one of the rooms for our 12- and 14-year-old children. It’s one of the ancient ones with about a three-inch mattress and frame that you feel the metal bars through. Also very squeaky. For a hotel of this caliber, it’s frankly an unacceptable sleeping option. We lived with it since the kids were exhausted and we appreciated the space, but couldn’t have stayed beyond the three days we did.
We paid to park in the connected garage. It was inconvenient because the license plate reader didn’t work so we had to call to be let out every time. We ended up just parking on the street so that was a waste.
The on-site restaurant was just OK for lunch and dinner offerings. I wish the menu had more offerings and variety.
You cannot use the golf course unless you were an experienced golfer with a handicap card. We were hoping to play 9 holes but couldn’t. You can, however, rent clubs and use the driving range.
Would absolutely return or recommend.
