Disappointing experience and away from 4-star standards

I stayed in Quinta do Estreito (Madeira) with my parents in the first week of June and, unfortunately, our experience was far below expectations for a four-star hotel. We consider that the category of the hotel does not correspond at all to the reality of the service provided, for several reasons:
1. Restoration and half-pension service very limited and the absence of local gastronomy: being the hotel located in Madeira, we expected typical dishes or more valuable ingredients (such as lapas or gambas). Instead, the menu was based on extremely basic and repetitive options, such as fish filets, turkey and pork lump (being the bull the highest point).
Hot Desserts and Unacceptable Justifications: We had to complain several times that the desserts were served hot. The justification given by an employee was that "the kitchen was hot", which demonstrates a lack of quality control.
Weak Breakfast: Although the breakfast was buffet, the variety was incredibly scarce for this hotel category.
2. Serious Failures in Cleaning and Safety Service
Open Room (Security Failure): In the first few days, they cleaned my room without me asking for it, and eventually left the door completely open. It's a very serious security breach that puts all my property at risk.
Lack of Cleaning: The day immediately after the incident, we witnessed the opposite extreme: my room and that of my parents were simply not cleaned. We paid for a daily service we didn't enjoy.
The "Compensation" Offered: After we complained about the lack of cleanliness and the open room, the hotel offered a cake and a bottle of Madeira Wine for my room, and the same for my parents' room. Although we are grateful for the gesture, taking this into account does not erase the gravity of a security failure or eliminate all other problems that have been reported.
3. Worn-out Facilities and Lack of Animation (Based Too Much Hotel)
Signs of wear: Although not the most critical point, it is noteworthy that the hotel needs a general renovation. In my particular room, the bathroom floor and the balcony showed clear signs of wear. The same scenario of carelessness extends to the pool area.
Absence of Activities and Services: I have never encountered a 4-star hotel so basic and dynamic. I leave as criticism and suggestion the complete absence of thematic nights, live music or activities to entertain the guests. In addition, they do not provide additional services expected in this range, such as a massage service.
4. Exclusive guidance for the foreign public
Lack of Inclusion: It became clear throughout the stay that the hotel is thought and structured almost exclusively for foreign tourists, completely forgetting to welcome and integrate also the Portuguese tourist.
Conclusion: The Quinta do Estreito has the title of 4 stars, but the restoration service, space maintenance, cleaning management and safety are at the level of a much lower category. For these reasons, we do not recommend and do not intend to return.
