Just a small word of warning. Please make sure you have internet access or data plan that works in Portugal. Get your codes prior to arrival at the hotel.

Profitability over guest comfort takes precedence at this establishment.
Very disappointing experience. Guest service seems to be in last place.
Our stay was quite problematic and, unfortunately, there were too many inconveniences to recommend this accommodation. They tend to delete negative comments, so I hope mine survives.
The check-in was excessively long and complex, which is especially frustrating after a trip. The room was not in the expected condition either: the bathroom was very small and the towels were dirty, so we could not shower until the next day, when the cleaner came and provided us with new towels.
The kitchen, also very small, was full of dust and the cabinet that closed it was stiff. The rag provided to clean the kitchen was also dirty.
In addition, the guests themselves informed us that there is a €50 fee if the cutlery and glasses are not left clean, something we consider important and which, in our experience, was not clearly communicated to us beforehand.
The access system is not convenient either. The PIN is too long to enter at the entrance, especially considering the environment and the dangerous situation of the area at night.
During our stay, we also saw cannabis products being sold in the immediate vicinity of the entrance and a cannabis establishment right next door, which may be uncomfortable for some guests.
The storage space is tiny. Furthermore, our safe was already locked and we could not use it during our entire stay despite repeatedly notifying maintenance.
But, without a doubt, the most worrying thing happened during one night, at approximately 12:00 AM, the fire alarm went off. We tried to contact the hotel repeatedly, all the guests who were out on the street, but no manager answered the calls or came in person to help us. We had to wait approximately 30 minutes until one of the guests finally managed to deactivate the alarm.
What we found especially serious was that, based on what we were able to verify during that situation, there was no immediate in-person response from any accommodation manager, nor were we informed that the fire department or police had been notified. There was also no in-person check to determine what had triggered the alarm in one of the rooms or to ensure that all guests were okay and that the alarm system had been correctly reset for the rest of the night. In a situation related to a possible fire, we consider that this should be an absolute priority.
It is especially striking that they seem very attentive to charging for a full day if the 11:00 a.m. check-out time is exceeded, but during an emergency, we were waiting around half an hour to get a response exclusively by phone.
Breakfast was not up to par either. A piece of fruit (orange or apple) was offered, a KitKat presented as a "cereal bar," a small juice, half a sandwich, half a slice of white bread to go with jam, and two mini pastries. It didn't even include additional drinks. In our opinion, it is much more advisable to look for a coffee shop in the area: you will probably find more complete, consistent options with the possibility of choosing what you really want to eat for breakfast.
Overall, our feeling was that the guest's experience and safety are clearly relegated in favor of the concern for charging and maximizing revenue. Between the cleaning problems, maintenance, the condition of the facilities, breakfast, and, especially, the lack of response to the fire alarm, we consider that the price-quality ratio is not adequate.
We do not recommend it and would not stay here again.

Negligence in acting upon fire alarm activation
Regrettable. Fire alarm went off and no one showed up after continuous calls. Finally, following instructions from one of the people who picked up, we managed to deactivate the alarm because they said it was smoke from one of the rooms where they were smoking, but no one from the hotel came to check the situation even though they told us someone would come. On top of that, you call them later and they hang up the phone and tell you that it has already been checked by someone when nobody came. 30 people on the street for two hours at midnight and with small children. They are scoundrels.

negligence in the event of a fire alarm
At midnight, the fire alarm went off in Room 20; over 30 people—including babies under a year old—were evacuated to the street, and the guests themselves had to turn off the alarm. No firefighters, no police (pathetic), and no one to help. This hotel has no reception desk; everything is handled online or by phone. They wash their hands of the situation and don't even come by hours later to confirm it's safe to return. It’s a disgrace—guests left out on the street. Hotel Madalena is a death trap, a scam. Don't come here.

Not a good place to stay!
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! The communication with the host was horrible. As soon as we arrived we were met with the smell of garbage in the lobby. Our unit was on the second floor and there was an overwhelming smell of chemicals or paint in the hallway that was also present in our room. We arrived at around 6 pm I contacted the company right away and did not get a response until almost noon the next day. I reached out to Expedia and they also couldn’t reach anyone to resolve my issue. The fumes in our room were so strong that it caused me to have a headache. Luckily, I was able to book a nearby hotel (The Convent) for a way better experience through my credit card. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY or TIME booking here. We were in the room for maybe 1 or 1.5 hours and they are refusing to accept my complaint through Expedia and give me a refund. They are a non-refundable property. Thought I was okay taking this risk. I learned my lesson that you get what you pay for.
