We have known Mariolas and their owners, Paulo and Daniela, since 2017, when we were there for the first time, shortly after its inauguration. In 2022 we moved to Portugal and since then we have been in regular contact with them, although we have only been able to stay back there now on Easter holiday 2026.
What can we say? Well, Mariolas is even better. The capricho in the arrangement of the rooms, in the cleaning, in the preparation of breakfast and, most importantly, in the welcoming and in the details with which Paulo and Daniela serve their guests we have not experienced yet in any other hostel in Portugal.
In addition, Paulo and Daniela are experienced climbers, unconditional lovers of nature and their vast knowledge of the Serra da Estrela, without starry or pedantia, are extremely useful for any visitor who wants to know a little more closely this Portuguese natural wonder.
Therefore, I point to Mariolas without eyelashing. If you are looking for coziness, comfort, beautiful views, homemade jelly beans and a smart and pleasant chat between walks, book now. I guarantee you won't regret it.

Great stay

We had such a wonderful stay at Casa Mariolas. The room with balcony is beautiful (quiet and good mattress) with a fantastic view to the valley. Big breakfast with local cheese and homemade jams, fresh fruit and very nice bread.
Daniele gave us such good tips for hiking, swimming and eating out. She seemed to know exactly what we were looking for. One of our best stays during our holiday in Portugal!
Hope to come back one day to do some climbing.

A Weekend of Comfort and Hospitality in the Serra da Estrela

I was feeling homesick for the mountains of Northern California and followed an impulse to visit the Serra da Estrela for the weekend. As it turned out, Casa Mariolas was the perfect base from which to explore this very special region! Daniela and Paulo are hosts after my own heart— they have created a truly beautiful, comfortable and cozy space, and go above and beyond to make their guests feel at home. Their suggestions for hiking, dining, and cultural tourism were spot on— even on a busy holiday (Easter) weekend! I am already looking forward to my next visit!

Managed by an ultra-friendly and amazing couple, this is the right place to stay when travelling to Serra da Estrela. With multiple accommodation options, from delightful double bed rooms with amazing views to comfortable dormitory with bunk beds, you will be surely well treated here, whatever your needs. It is extremely clean, with all facilities required and includes an excellent breakfast. In addition, being two of the most experienced climbers and mountaineers in Portugal, Paulo and Daniela are always keen to give you the best tips for your traveling plans to discover the amazing Serra da Estrela. Do not miss!

family weekend

Nice and clean rooms, a desirable view, excellent and helpful people. the house is near from nature Mountain and waterfalls. I believe one of the best value for money for family or couples or even for business or solo.
