Decent Place to Stay for a Falls Visit

I recently stayed at the Eco Cataratas. I would have given the property 5 stars except for some problems upon check in. The suite (bedroom with a separate living area in another room) that I booked, looked nothing like the one in the pictures on-line. There were two twin beds (I assume set up for a family during a prior stay) in the main living area, and furniture had been removed to accommodate the changes. It was awful (see attached pic). When I went to complain at the front desk, a very unpleasant and rude front desk person named Diego was dismissive and nasty. He did not seem to comprehend why I was upset. Finally, he offered me a so-called "upgrade" to a room, but I would not accept a room as I had booked a suite and asked to speak to a manager. This seemed to enrage him. I don't speak Portuguese, but his tone was angry and condescending. I did pick up that he tossed around the term "gringo" more than once in my direction. Management should provide him with some much needed training on customer service or simply take him out of direct contact with guests.
Despite a very upsetting and unpleasant start to my two night stay, the situation was resolved to my liking by a very generous upgrade and a complimentary dinner. I owe this 100% to an exceptional front desk woman named Monica. She put Diego in his place (he looked extremely displeased by her taking charge) and happily worked to assist me. She went up and beyond to make the situation right, which I did appreciate very, very much.
Despite the dismal start to my two night stay, the positives are that the pool area is very nice. And, more importantly, the proximity to the falls, which is the only true reason to stay at this property, is excellent.
Finally, there are a couple of things to note here. Firstly, this property has two different buildings. One is relatively old, and the other is much newer. You want to ensure that you have the later as it is much nicer. Additionally, there is a very bountiful buffet, but most of the food I found to be just average. The main dining room is huge and can be compared to dining on a low rent cruise ship.

Great service at Bar

We stayed for couple of nights and had great service at restaurant and looked after by Rodrigo. He was very nice and caring

The hotel is great nearby the airport, try to go with a lot of time to explore and also keep in mind the airport even you are close the uber decline to pickup at the hotel because they don’t lower their rates. Call taxi and reserve in advance we almost lost our flight even with two hours.

Lucas the Gem!

First of all MUST emphasize the attention given by Lucas whom exceeded all expectations with his ongoing customer service going way and beyond ! We learned he is a trainee and from all the staff also wonderful (Jayona-caisca. Alisson-Barman. Mercedes- maitre. Maylis and Jesus). Lucas was far the example of what a customer service should be. He is a true gem in this resort so happy he took care of us and wish to see him succeed within the business...others should learn from him! A true example!! excellent excellent!
On the other hand a bad experience with Gabriel Bombrao whom did absolutely nothing dismissing us ..no eye contact..coldness..we needed change for the massage machine and he did not even try to accomodate changing our bills to newer ones for the machine to take them or change a bigger bill. I understand maybe he had no cash but he was so indifferent to us and just kept going on with his screen like nobody was in front of him when we were the only ones there needing attention. He does not belong in the front desk for sure!. The other front desk

The breakfast was exceptional. The best breakfast ever. It is even better than the all inclusive 5 star restaurant in Mexico or Cruise breakfast. There are a lot of choices. I really enjoyed it!
