It is a local fishing village along mangrove river with a lot of local fisherman families.

A stay to understand the reality of living on an island
We stayed with my partner for 1 week volunteering. The truth is that volunteering wasn’t much to do, just a few simple tasks to help Johney in his business.
Yes, the place has a lot of potential anyway! You only have to be proactive because the owner is too chill and wants to disturb as little as possible.
If you want to live an authentic experience, save yourself a few pesos and be in a very quiet place, without parties, this place is for you!
You will be living in a traditional house of the sector, without major amenities, without parties and without paradise beaches around the corner. (Party venues are about 15 minutes by motorbike, such as Palm Beach or Kerfuffle)
You should be willing to bathe in cold water and buckets, without wifi or a stable cellular network connection, cohabit with mosquitoes, chickens, geckos, spiders and other creatures. Start your day at 6 am and finish it early in the evening.
It is a small fishing village, so it is not for everyone. Food is limited, few restaurants or local food. If you like to cook, you should look very well in local businesses vegetables and fruits. It all depends on the boat that supplies the island. Also, the kitchen that the house has is almost like cooking on a campsite.
The water is limited, they pass from time to time from a barge refilling large drums of clean water for cooking/washing/bathing. The owner provides drinking water to drink in small drums.
The place is beautiful, with a river and many mangroves around. You can kayak and take a walk or you can go to Lonely Beach, one of my favorite beaches that is a 40 minute walk away and is the perfect place to snorkel. The place has many hammocks to spend the afternoon reading your book or take a rich nap. Keep in mind that there is a lot of garbage around, unfortunately there is not a very good handling of garbage at the country level. Also you can find one or another cockfight or not very healthy dogs.
Motorcycle rental is 10usd wherever you go. Be careful that the roads to the most beautiful beaches are not in good shape and it is easy to have some knee peeled by falling. The good thing is that Johney has an excellent willingness to take you wherever you want, grateful a thousand for that!
In short, it was a very nice, quiet experience, being protagonist of the daily life of the village as well as sharing and playing with the neighboring children. Being part of this not so tourist reality where you end up valuing things as simple as a good shower or your favorite food.
Thank you to Johney for all the willingness and reception. I hope that in the future things will be more organized in terms of volunteers and contributions to the environment and local life.

Amazing bungalow
It was my best time in my big trip. Johnny arranged for me some authentic local experiences I will never forget like fishing with his friend and eating with them what we caught. Beautiful village and nice people. The bungalow was perfect above the river and very spacious.

Fishing trip at the friend of nature home stay
While staying at the friend of nature home stay you can book a fishing trip for $10. This includes being picked up from the accomodation and then taken to various spots out on the sea to catch fish. It is an amazing experience and the fishermen are very friendly and helpful. When you head back you can watch the sunset too. After this you are taken back to their home where they cook the fish for you and you can have rice, alcohol and amazing fresh fish. While doing this you can also meet other travellers and it’s a great experience to book onto while staying at the home stay.

The comments were right. This place is ideal for nature lovers looking for authenticity, tranquility, human relationship. Johney is a lovely host who adapts to the needs of everyone and ensures our well-being. Stung by sand flies, he takes the time to take me to the pharmacy, at the opposite extreme. The reward for both of us: a passion juice. Yesterday, he took my bungalow neighbor to fix his fishing rod. He introduces us to his daily life and shares good tips. Lovely adorable!!!! Kayaking is available. The food is delicious. Hard to leave!
