An Oasis of Calm for Families in the Heart of SHV – Stunning Rooftop! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We stayed at RIVA SHV in early December 2025 with our children, and it was the highlight of our trip to Sihanoukville. After seeing how busy much of the city is, RIVA felt like a peaceful, modern sanctuary.
The dining experience was exceptional. Every breakfast offered a great variety, and the quality of the ingredients was top-notch. As for the service, it was seamless from check-in to check-out. The staff were incredibly attentive, professional, and went out of their way to make our children feel welcome.
This rooftop is where the hotel truly shines. The infinity pool has the best views. We spent every evening at the rooftop bar watching the December sunset with cocktails for us and fresh fruit shakes for the little ones.
RIVA is undoubtedly the best choice in town. Between the high-end facilities and the wonderful team, we will definitely be back!

Modern hotel with mixed experiences

The hotel is located near the main street, the environment may appeal to those who like Chinese cities. The furnishings are modern, high quality. The room is spacious, ours was clean and quiet, but others complained about bugs and noise. It was strange that in the evening the staff wanted to send us off the roof, saying it was closed, while a group of Chinese were still swimming in the pool.

This was booked for 4 nights by mistake as I searched for Koh Rong. When I realised on the morning of arrival they wouldn’t refund any of my money. I thought they it would have been fair just to pay for one night but I had to pay for all 4.

DISGRACEFUL!

Disgraceful. Booked a King Deluxe room with Ocean View.
Our balcony faced a wall with 6 air conditioners bellowing.
Hotel didn’t fix it!
Avoid this Hotel, they don’t deliver on what they promise!!!

A Wonderful Hotel – Shame About the Neighbourhood!

I only stayed one night at the RIVA Hotel SHV as a stopover while going from Koh Rong to Phnom Penh. I stayed in the Deluxe King Room. The hotel was fantastic. There were a couple of small things which I’ll go into but otherwise it is a comfortable four-star hotel.
The room was large with a good-sized desk and chair, a coffee table, and a lounge chair. There was plenty of shelves and wardrobe space. The bathroom is huge with both a walk-in shower and a bathtub. There is a window looking into the bathroom from the bedroom, which is a little weird, but a blind can be drawn to prevent anyone looking in.
The room comes with a kettle, fridge, coffee, hair dryer, and a safe.
The bed is big and comfortable.
Strangely, there is no furniture on the balcony.
There are a restaurant and a café on the ground floor that serve good food. There is a mix of Western and Asian food to choose from but no desserts. The café also sells snacks, ice cream, noodles, toiletries, and alcohol.
There are a pool and a gym on the tenth floor. The gym is one of the best I’ve seen in a hotel with a good mix of machines and free weights. There is everything you need to keep up your training regime, and it is big enough that two or three people could work out without getting in each other’s way.
The views from the top floor are interesting. You can see the ocean and a lot of empty shells of the ghost buildings that have been abandoned mid-construction.
The surrounding area is a horror show of casinos, construction, and abandoned building projects. It does not really feel like Cambodia. However, these ghost buildings are almost a tourist attraction by themselves. I was only glad to see that some locals have started to use the lower floors as shelters, putting up tarpaulins, and shanty towns, just to give the place that post-apocalyptic feeling.
Beach access to Independence Beach is restricted in in some areas by tall walls and security guards, but if you pay attention, you’ll notice some people have figured out the secret paths through the fields of rubbish and broken brickwork to the beach. The beach is beautiful with white sand, but it will be crowded, and a sour smell comes off the stagnant water nearby.
Nearby, there must be a party venue because the noise continued until 5:00 am in the morning with shouting and party sounds.
The breakfast buffet was good. The filter coffee was passable; you can go to the café to get better coffee though. I liked the three kinds of jam: papaya, pineapple, and pandan leaf. The bread rolls were nice too.
The two main problems I had with the room were:
1/ The chair that sits at the desk was very uncomfortable.
2/ The towels hang over the toilet and when you lift the seat, the top of the toilet seat touches the bottom of the hanging towels – Yuck! This was in room 521. I hope other rooms are different.
I would go back to RIVA Hotel SHV if I went to Sihanoukville again. It was a nice place, and I wish I had stayed longer than the one day that I did. I must say, I’m in no rush to go back to Sihanoukville though, it just does not feel like an authentic Cambodian experience. The empty buildings, and casinos show a seedy side to tourism and unbridled development that is a little heartbreaking.
