Memorable experience

We celebrated our 30th Wedding anniversary at the Kingfisher. The caves were an interesting and enjoyable experience but the massage from Sheryl Lynn and ?(can’t remember her name) was amazing!
Our room was great and the sparkling wine and handwritten card were a lovely touch.
Dinner was delicious. The service and the setting were top notch.
Can’t wait to come back and try the hydro path.

Overpriced for what you get

Well first of all, if you decide to make the venture down the rough, dusty, 80km road to Bamfield be prepared. The Kingfisher Lodge is more of a fishing lodge that is fairly old and the Marina is pretty much forgotten about. But back to the lodge...Once you actually find the turn off to the Kingfisher Marina you go down an extremely steep narrow road with parking for maybe 4 cars. There was nobody there, there is no front desk, just a note on the kitchen window to phone for keys. Once we phoned we were told that all the keys are kept inside the kitchen in a little dish by the window, and which keys were ours. Our room was right next to the kitchen which was handy as we had to cook our own food the first night, and we were not really prepared for this. We bought expensive food at the town's only little corner store as the towns only restaurant closes at 6pm every night.
Our room had a king bed indeed, as ordered, however it was very old, saggy, and uncomfortable. The bathroom was so small you had to sort of duck around the sink to sit yourself on the toilet. The shower was so tiny you banged your elbows on the walls when attempting to wash ones hair. Our room was ok for cleanliness but the kitchen next door was dirty, food crumbs on all surfaces, dirty dishes in the sink....oh and a gas stove with nothing to light it with. The kitchen was ill equipped so cooking was a challenge. There is a little veranda that runs in front of all the rooms, but there wasn't a chair to be found to sit out there. For $215/night we expected much better. We have stayed in better, cleaner, nicer places in BC for less.

Would I go back? You bet I would!

Ok I will be blunt and honest..... The Lodge was booked by mistake. We were looking for Tofino and Expedia sent us here. Not knowing the distance we decided to go for it. the roads to Bamfield are logging roads and it's a good Two and a half hours drive - we came in from one direction and left via Port Alberni. The roads can be confusing in parts but very pretty. By the time we got there we were tired and perhaps a little stressed. The inlet though, took our breath away. It is so beautiful. Words cannot express this enough. We had our room in the Lodge and when we first opened the door it smelt a little musty... but we were here and it was a long drive out with no vacancies anywhere else. So we hunkered down. It's basic. Don't go expecting luxury, you won't get it. But it was clean and the view from the little balcony was to die for. The owners were amazing and very helpful. The village was friendly and did I already say amazingly beautiful? We took the little water taxi over the inlet and walked down the board walk to the little market shop..... again, breath taking... everyone we met gave us a 'hello' and chatted. I was glad to fall into bed that night and slept like a log. The little base heater kept the chill off. My friend said his bed could have used a duvet as it was only a comforter and blankets. Also there were no curtains up at the door.... we mentioned this to the owner and they took it on board. It's not like you really needed them BTW... because it was very private but was just one of those things right? Oh and the little pub and restaurant.... amazing food and very friendly locals. The walks from the Lodge are beautiful.... there is so much to see and do. Not for those who want high end amenities. You def need Tofino etc for that but I didn't want to leave. In fact if I ever need to escape the world again I will go back in a heart beat. I know it was May long weekend but the cost was a little high in my opinion. I would have been more comfortable paying around $80 per night for what the room was as you had to share a common room if you wanted TV etc. The village was beyond price though. It's hard to rate the property.. truthfully I should give it a three but for the setting a five. I'll go for a four to appease. Thank you for probably being the best part of my two week vacation.

Beautiful spot on the water

We stayed 2 nights in the Kingfisher Lodge and loved it. The room was fantastic and had gorgeous views of across the water. There is a communal kitchen downstairs if needed.
Check in wasn't all that straight forward- you need to go to the Bamfield Motel reception first to check in then drive up the road to where the Kingfisher Lodge is actually located. We stayed an extra night because we loved the peaceful location so much.
