Crappy motel room, abusive unprofessional owner
Advertises online as a peaceful resort, showing online pictures of lovely interior and exterior spaces. Do not fall for their bait & switch tactics. We were sent to a crappy motel room in a separate building on the property. Old, rundown building with exterior room access, no view, lumpy beds, sink in outer bedroom, and musty stale air triggering an immediate asthmatic reaction. Yuck!
We set up a portable air purifier and escaped the room to enjoy the resort amenities. We were directed to an exterior patio by front desk staff and invited to enjoy fire tables and a view. On patio, staff were banging around, clearly setting up for some event. No chairs around fire tables. When I said I needed fresh air because of asthma & poor air quality in the room, owner (not yet identifying himself as such) brusquely informed us that the patio would be closed at 3pm to guests as there would be a wedding reception. Snapped at us to use “other patio”. Other patio was an extension of first one with bistro tables outside of a closed restaurant. No view, not even a snack or drink available, and very uncomfortable… then someone started smoking!
Stopped by same man as I walked to front desk to request a different room. He said no other rooms were available but he would check and that he was the owner. Said that maybe I should leave, that he’d reverse the charges.
We spoke privately and decided to take him up on the offer. Searched for him, were directed to lobby and while we waited to speak to him, we were told he’d entered our assigned/occupied room without notification, permission, or our presence. We later noticed that an old window was partially open.
When I requested the proffered refund/reversal of charges, he became verbally abusive. I told him that it was a shame because we’d been looking forward to a lovely resort room as shown online, not what we’d been given and that I hadn’t seen a motel room like that in over 40 years of extensive travel. He justified the state of the room by pointing out that we’d only booked directly online the prior day. He had a very public temper tantrum, yelling and demanding I get out of his hotel (despite my stated intention to leave), he refused me any paperwork for the credit card reversal, and yelled that I’d insulted him by calling it a crappy motel room… exactly what it is!
He chased us to the room and to our vehicle, continuing to scream at us, gesticulating wildly, threatening to call police (no cause to), telling us to enjoy sleeping in our car (we thoroughly enjoyed a stay at the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City that evening).
We do not recommend a stay at this place! It is not a relaxing resort or room, it is a weathered old motel and room with apparently no updated HVAC or other expected amenities. We found the owner to be abusive, arrogant, uncommunicative, and unprofessional. He was not concerned with his guest’s concerns, health, or experience. We have never had an experience like this in our 63 years!

Excellent stay
The only drawback is the location of the toilet, with the toilet paper holder mounted in an awkward place.
