We love the Haven!!!

My friends and I stayed here for 5 nights for Spring Break! Personally, this was my first time staying in a hostel and we couldn't have picked a better place. Great location for walking to restaurants, shops, and bars. Less than an hour drive away from 2 great provincial parks for hiking (Sleeping Giant and Kakabeka Falls). Friendly staff and other residents made us feel right at home. The rooms are nice and the kitchen is fully stocked with utensils, pans, microwave, community fridge, coffee maker, kettle, and random supplies we forgot like ziploc bags. I slept great all 5 nights with a small clip fan they provided. The bathrooms are very clean, and there's laundry service as well. We miss the Haven already!!

Know What You are Getting Into

This was our second night's stay on our 10-day Lake Superior Circle Tour.
We graded each of our stays on 12 points that travelers might find helpful:
1. Coffee Maker - No
2. Microwave/Fridge - No
3. AC - Window Unit
4. Fan - Stand
5. Bath - small but well-appointed, hot water takes a bit to get to second floor
6. Bed - ok, soft sheets!
7. Accessible - No
8. Cleanliness - A+
9. TV - No
10. View - C (you could see a boat over other apartment buildings)
11. Ice - No
12. Price - medium
This is truly a hostel. No elevator to second floor. We were asked to remove our shoes in common areas. There were lobby rules and quiet hours. Overall, our room was excellent, but the hostel experience wasn't for us.

Thunder Bay overnight.

The place was clean and tidy. Beds were fine. Access and parking are good.
Disappointed there are no climate controls available except a couple of floor fans and opening a window.
We were in the lower unit and it sounded like Simon BIles was doing her floor routine above us. It stopped at 10 pm and I was able to sleep after thqt.

Small clean friendly hostel with some private rooms as well as dorms

Although this is a hostel, I was able to walk in and get a private room for one night at a reasonable rate. The room was small but the bathroom was large. All was extremely clean, and management was very friendly but very firm and buttoned-up. The other guests ranged from a group of young people to a scattering of middle-aged and older men. Felt like a nice safe environment.
There is a large common area as well as a communal kitchen. No food is served there so dining is not included unless you walk several blocks to a grocery and buy something to cook or micro in the kitchen (which I did, and that worked well). Clean is valued so highly that everyone must leave their shoes at the door. Well done!!!

A great stay in Thunder Bay!

My first time staying in a hostel at age 70 had me a little nervous. My, was I pleasantly surprised! Had one of the 3 private suites. Immaculately clean. Quiet. Shower was small (not tiny) but adequate with plenty of hot water and excellent pressure.
Owner and her staff were very friendly and helpful in recommending places to eat and get excellent sandwiches for lunch and dinner, all within a safe walking distance. Walking distance to the lakefront. Coffee and light breakfast fare in the morning with an available kitchen to do your own cooking throughout the day. Prices were reasonable.
The 3 night stay was perfect. I would highly recommend The Haven Hostel!
