Not the best and definitely not a four star hotel.
Some of the beds are broken and so are some of the parasols, plus the green beds are so uncomfortable they made my back hurt, there are no mats for any of the beds, so be warned. We chose to go out for the day on three of the seven days we were here, if you haven’t got young kids, I suggest you do the same. Don’t go to the beach though, even though it’s conveniently situated across from the hotel, it will set you back €50 for four beds with mats and 2 parasols! The hotel is very family oriented with emphasis on the young kids, for us, this wasn’t ideal. If you want a peaceful relaxing holiday, this isn’t for you. There’s constant activity going on, the kids entertainers are putting on activities throughout the day. My two older kids wanted to swim about in the pool but it was so crowded with screaming, excitable youngsters that they gave up. This hotel is great for families with young kids in the baby to tween ages but for kids past 12/13, not so much. The entertainment in the evening is from 8pm-9pm for the kids and then from 9pm there’s usually a live singer. One night we ended up putting our own table and chairs as we were stood waiting for seating to be sorted. It’s all very inconsistent, dysfunctional and unorganised where the evening is concerned and there’s not nearly enough seating for everyone either, so you end up like pool wars, only this time, fighting for a table and chairs!
Food and drink - the all inclusive buffet is excellent, as I said above, this is where this hotel excels, plenty of variety, freshly cooked foods and snacks throughout the day. The drinks are ok, but the cocktails are on tap, so if you’re expecting bells/whistles and umbrellas then I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed. The wine is like paint stripper, good lord, it took all my strength to swallow that first sip haha! I stuck to gin and tonic most nights, but even that tasted like vodka and lemonade to me, go figure.
Cleanliness - this is where the hotel is not great, just my opinion. The pool area is not cleaned very well, the whole area has stains from drink spillages to rubbish being left everywhere, we’re considerate and place our rubbish in bins provided but not all guests do the same and I was constantly tripping over paper cups, wrappers, plus I nearly slipped on a serviette that was on the floor too, there’s food left out which attracts the wasps. My other gripe is that people are allowed to smoke around the pool area, this is a no no for me. The beds are so close together in some areas, there’s no getting away from someone else’s smoke fumes. It spoils the atmosphere for me. The rooms are not cleaned well enough either, they literally come in and make a bed, that’s it. If we hadn’t have taken that food out from the first night ourselves, it would have sat there all week, I swear! I don’t expect everything gleaming, but a wipe around the toilet, sink and bath wouldn’t go amiss. I cannot fault the buffet ladies, they are super efficient cleaning peoples plates away at lightning speed, although sometimes they would take a plate away when you were still eating, it became a sport haha! Overall, this hotel is ok, I would not rate it a 4 star hotel though, more like 2-3 stars at best. Great for families, not so much for families wanting a chilled, peaceful atmosphere. Would come back to Cavtat, but won’t be returning to the remisens albatross again.
In conclusion
Positives - Food, staff, fridge in rooms, comfy beds and pillows
Negatives - wine is awful, cocktails are from a tap, not the bar (even served from a tap from the bar too), cleanliness, room cleanliness, many broken sun beds and parasols, no mats for the green sun beds which are really uncomfortable and left me with a back ache.

Few teaks needed but overall great
Room lovely with great view, beds very comfy, location perfect, pool very clean and enough sunbeds, food ample for what you’d expect at a all inclusive if you are not a fussy eater you will always find something to eat (although some strange combinations)
Hotel is clean and you will see staff cleaning
Most of the staff are lovely, very hard working & the animation team work very hard to keep guests entertained
Few negatives:
Drinks are not very good, the beer & wine are ok but the selection of cocktails is very poor - ready mixed from a tap, full of sugar and hardly no alcohol - even if you ask for a vodka and mixer, tastes like water….this is a big disappointment as a few tweaks and this hotel could be truly amazing! Please ditch the crappy ready made and start making cocktails, even in pitchers using premium alcohol!!! Also serve them in plastic glasses and make effort with slice of fruit etc…not paper cups these little tweaks really would elevate the guests experience
There are a few odd staff members who are miserable! This is not acceptable as anyone who works in hospitality needs to at least have a smile! Majority of staff are lovely however!
Air con is not set for you to change so it’s one setting which isn’t nice when it’s extremely hot (we did call reception who appeared to over ride this and it was then cooler)
The food selection could cater more for the fussier eaters ie chips, pizza, nuggets etc…you hardly have these on the menu and when you do (mainly in snack bar) everyone goes crazy for them
Snack bar would be good to just serve toasties and fries and the pizza, croquettes and fish fingers move into the main dining room
Also round the pool would be nice to have some music and maybe 1-2 evenings a week a themed night such as a BBQ or a world cuisine. Evening such as Chinese or Indian
Overall thoughts
Great hotel with many positives - do not be put off by the negative reviews.

Thank you for your fantastic and detailed review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your room and beautiful view, comfortable beds, excellent location, clean pool and our all-inclusive dining. We are especially pleased that you appreciated the variety of our food selection.
Our cuisine is inspired by the **Mediterranean diet, widely recognised as one of the healthiest and most balanced ways of eating**, and this is something we are proud to promote at the hotel. We understand that guests may have different preferences, but we aim to offer a fresh and varied selection based on Mediterranean flavours and principles.
We also truly appreciate your constructive suggestions regarding drinks, food options, air conditioning and entertainment. Your comments are valuable and will be shared with our relevant teams.
Thank you again for your kind words and recommendation. We hope to welcome you back to Remisens Hotel Albatross soon!

Disappointing All-Inclusive Stay — Great Location, But Too Many Issues
When we first booked this hotel, the reviews were very positive overall. Unfortunately, just a week before travelling, we noticed that the reviews had dropped significantly, and after staying here ourselves, I can understand why.
The hotel itself is nice enough and fairly modern, with some good facilities. Guests have free use of the spa area, including the sauna and steam room. However, the indoor pool was absolutely freezing — it was more like an ice bath than a swimming pool! The outdoor pool was also very cold, although it was more bearable when sitting in the sunshine. It was clear that neither pool was heated.
The indoor pool area also had extremely wet and slippery floors. I nearly slipped twice, which was particularly concerning as I am currently pregnant. I think this is something that really needs to be addressed from a safety perspective.
Food and drinks:
The food was probably the biggest disappointment, particularly considering this is an all-inclusive hotel.
Breakfast was definitely the best of the three meals, but lunch and dinner offered very limited choices. There seemed to be more salad options than actual hot food, and what was available was very repetitive — lots of potatoes, different meats, fish, veal and even deer at one point. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with Croatian food, having very similar Croatian-style dishes every single night became extremely repetitive.
There were a few occasions when chicken burgers were served, but bizarrely there were no burger buns to actually make a burger. At the beginning of the week, pizza was available with most meals, although it was very basic and not particularly good. Towards the end of the week, even this disappeared from lunch and dinner.
For an all-inclusive resort, I would expect a much broader range of food that caters to different tastes. It would have been great to see things such as curries and rice, Chinese dishes, burgers with buns, pasta dishes, Mexican etc. If you are a fussy eater or travelling with children, I imagine eating here would be particularly difficult. Even though we are not especially fussy eaters, we ended up eating out several times because there simply wasn’t enough appealing food available.
The drinks selection was also disappointing. There were very cheap-tasting fizzy drinks, only one beer option and a very limited cocktail selection. The cocktails came from a machine rather than being freshly made.
Housekeeping and room:
Another major disappointment was the housekeeping. Our room was only cleaned once during our entire stay. Unfortunately, on that one occasion, an item belonging to us subsequently went missing.
The item itself wasn’t particularly valuable, but it was still very disappointing. We spoke to reception in case it had simply been removed by mistake. We were told that they would speak to the cleaners and contact us if it was found, or return it to our room. Unfortunately, we never heard anything further and never saw the item again, meaning we will now have to pay to replace it.
There is a free safe in the room for valuables, which is useful, but obviously you cannot realistically put every single belonging you have into a safe.
The room also had a strange smell when we first arrived. I couldn’t quite identify it, but it smelled potentially damp or possibly of cigarette smoke. Thankfully, once the air conditioning was switched on, the smell faded.
We also had an issue with ants appearing in the bathroom one day. I’m not sure where they were coming from as the bathroom isn’t close to the balcony, so presumably they were getting in through a crack or gap somewhere.
The hotel only provided us with one room key when we checked in. As a couple, we much prefer having two keys so that we don’t have to rely on each other to get in and out of the room. It also meant that when we left for the day, we couldn’t leave a key in the electricity slot to keep the air conditioning running. As a result, we would return to a very hot room.
The air conditioning was also set to a fixed temperature and couldn’t be adjusted. I assume this is done to control the hotel’s energy costs, but it was frustrating not being able to set the room to a temperature that suited us.
Entertainment and noise:
The noise was another significant issue. Most of the rooms appear to face towards the pool area, where the evening entertainment takes place. The music was extremely loud and continued until around 11pm, meaning it was impossible to get to sleep before it finished.
This would be particularly frustrating for families with young children, or simply anyone who wants an earlier night. I think the entertainment either needs to be moved to a more suitable location or the volume needs to be reduced.
The entertainment itself was also fairly underwhelming. It was mainly singers each evening, and it would have been nice to see more variety, such as dancers or other types of performances.
The layout of the entertainment area was also strange. The stage was down by the pool but there wasn’t a bar nearby that was open. If you wanted another drink, you had to walk all the way through the hotel to the lobby bar, which isn’t particularly convenient when you’re trying to sit and watch the entertainment.
There were also very few seats available. The entertainment area seemed to have seating for perhaps 40 people, which is nowhere near enough for the size of the hotel. On the occasions when we tried to sit and watch, the seats had already been taken and we ended up returning to our room.
Other issues:
The dining area was extremely busy. If you didn’t arrive as soon as the restaurant opened, you could struggle to find a table. There didn’t seem to be much urgency from staff to clear and reset tables after guests had finished eating, which made the situation worse.
The area around the outdoor sunbeds was also very dirty. The floor became covered in dirt and debris, which then transferred onto the towels when you sat back down. I think the area should be swept or cleaned at the end of each day.
One other thing worth mentioning is the beach area shown in the hotel’s photographs. The photos make it appear as though this is a hotel beach area available for guests to use, but it isn’t actually owned by the hotel. If you want to use the sunbeds and parasols there, you have to pay separately. I found this quite misleading based on how the area is presented in the hotel’s photographs.
The positives:
The biggest positive by far is the location.
Cavtat itself is beautiful, peaceful and a lovely place to stay. The hotel is only a short walk from the town centre, and it is also conveniently located for the bus if you want to travel into Dubrovnik for the day. The location really is excellent, and I would absolutely recommend visiting Cavtat.
The hotel itself also has some nice, modern facilities and could potentially be a very good hotel with some improvements.
Overall:
Unfortunately, we were largely disappointed with our stay and wouldn’t recommend this hotel, particularly if you are booking it as an all-inclusive resort.
There are simply too many areas that need improvement — the limited and repetitive food, poor drinks selection, lack of housekeeping, missing belongings, cold pools, slippery indoor pool floor, noisy entertainment, limited seating, busy dining area and lack of flexibility with the air conditioning all added up to a disappointing experience.
I would definitely recommend Cavtat as a destination, but based on our experience, I would recommend staying at a different hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We are pleased that you enjoyed our excellent location, the beauty of Cavtat, our modern facilities and complimentary spa area.
We also appreciate your detailed comments regarding the pools, dining experience, housekeeping, entertainment and overall organisation. Your feedback is valuable and will be shared with the relevant teams as we continue to improve our services and facilities.
Regarding our cuisine, our offer is inspired by the Mediterranean diet, which we are proud to promote as one of the healthiest and most balanced approaches to eating. We understand that guests have different tastes and preferences, and we appreciate your suggestions regarding additional international options.
We would also like to clarify one point regarding the beach. In Croatia, beaches are part of the maritime domain and are public, so hotels do not own private beaches. The beach in front of our hotel is therefore not a private hotel beach, and the use of sunbeds and umbrellas there is subject to the arrangements of the beach operator.
We are delighted that you enjoyed Cavtat and its convenient connection to Dubrovnik, and we hope you will return to our beautiful destination in the future.
Kind regards,
Remisens Team

Check in was slow with a long queue at times. We only ate breakfast in the hotel so can't comment on other meals, breakfast was very busy, they ran out of some items which weren't replenished very quickly. Plenty of good restaurants outside the hotel if just on b&b. Sea view rooms were clean and a good size
Not a hotel we would return to as a couple (we only had a short stay) but great for families and children.
