Historic city hotel with a lot of charm - ideal for a city trip.
We generally had a very positive experience during our stay at the Heritage Palace Varoš. The hotel is excellent for anyone looking to explore Split as a city.
Particularly noteworthy is the exceptional cleanliness. Both our room and the bathrooms, hallways, and staircases were in impeccable condition. The rooms are tastefully furnished and combine the historic character of the building with modern amenities. Although they are not particularly large and the wardrobe could be a bit more spacious for two people, we still felt comfortable.
The location in the middle of the old town is a major plus point. The hotel perfectly integrates architecturally into the historic surroundings and conveys an authentic atmosphere. However, one should know that it is situated on a slope, and the path to the old town and back always involves some inclines and stairs. This was not a problem for us, but people with limited mobility should take this into account.
The only real point of criticism concerns our check-in. The staff member appeared to be disengaged and provided very little information. We only learned that breakfast is served not in the hotel, but in a partner restaurant about five to seven minutes away from other guests. We also initially received a room key for a room that was already occupied by mistake. The staff members present later, however, made a significantly more professional impression.
It is also important to know that the Heritage Palace Varoš is a classic city hotel. There is no bar, no pool, and no lounge areas or evening entertainment. Those who are looking for exactly that are in the right place. On the other hand, those planning a beach vacation with a hotel complex should be aware that the beach is not in immediate proximity and no shuttle service is offered.
Ultimately, we changed hotels, but not because it was bad, rather because it did not match the description of our booked package trip. However, for a pure city trip, we would definitely recommend the Heritage Palace Varoš. Cleanliness, location, and atmosphere are convincing – there is still some potential for improvement in service and guest information from our perspective. Therefore, we award 4 out of 5 stars.

When we got to the room after climbing the stairs, the AC was off. In a loft room. In 35°. We turned it on and went back out to try to cool down. When we came back hours later, it was once again boiling in the room, because it turns out the AC turns off when you pull the key card!! In a loft room! Suffice to say we had to spend two hours waiting for it to cool down so we could sleep.
The bed was awful. Super wiggly spring mattress which felt like sleeping on an inflatable mattress to be completely honest. And it’s loud. The entire building. We could hear what our neighbours where whispering to each other. Can’t imagine what a room further down would be like.
The breakfast was an eight minute walk away in narrow streets with no cell reception for maps, in a random restaurant. The check out is at 10 and it was «impossible» to get a late checkout, even tho we had to spend 16 minutes to walk to and from breakfast.
Book somewhere else.
