Big disappointment, overdue maintenance, housekeeping problems and lack of service
The room itself was clearly in need of a thorough renovation. This not only applied to the room, but also to the lobby and the corridors to the rooms. Visibly overdue maintenance was present everywhere. A floor lamp in the room didn’t even work, simply because there weren’t enough outlets available when you wanted to charge your phone at the same time.
The cleaning also left much to be desired. The bathroom was completely flooded because the drain hardly functioned. Given the general state of the room, I suspect the drain was simply clogged with hair. In addition, there were flies and dirt in the window fans. One part of the air conditioning system was even suspended half from the ceiling.
The technical provisions were also a series of annoyances. The television in the bathroom did not work because the battery cover of the remote control was missing. Maintenance had solved this in a particularly amateurish way with a piece of duct tape, so the batteries did not make good contact and the remote control was unusable.
The television in the room itself seemed not to have been used for weeks, if not months. I first had to perform various software updates myself before the device even functioned. Subsequently, the streaming system was still not working. The many bright red instruction cards that were plastered all over walls and bedside tables turned out to be little more than decoration; streaming was simply impossible.
Perhaps most disappointing was the hotel's response to the reported problems. I had informed the reception early in the morning about the defects, including the all-flooded bathroom. Because I had to leave for appointments, I expected action to be taken during the day.
When I came back more than five hours later, nothing appeared to have been done. I was told that housekeeping had not been yet because they had to clean the rooms of departing guests first. That while my bathroom was completely flooded and I should have used all available towels to prevent the water from reaching the carpet in the hallway.
For a hotel that takes itself seriously, this level of maintenance, cleaning and service is simply unacceptable. I understand that something can occasionally break, but the combination of pollution, overdue maintenance, technical problems and the complete lack of an adequate response means that I unfortunately cannot recommend this hotel. One star is still generous in this case.
