Weekend Deventer
Stayed overnight at this lovely hotel. On arrival we were kindly received and we were allowed to choose which floor we wanted.
Nice big room on the 10th floor.
Very large bathroom and a lovely bed. Everything neat and clean.
Breakfast was generous.
Had a very good stay. TOP

Not recommended
Very mediocre hotel considering the price and the quality provided. Rooms are spacious but unfortunately not very clean. The staff is friendly but poorly trained, impersonal and no one seems to be in charge. Upon arrival in the lobby, the toilets could be clearly smelled every day, the tables in the breakfast room were hardly or not cleaned, at 8 am it was already looking for a table without crumbs or stickiness.

Bad experience, little privacy in suites
Beware of the Pristine Suite at Van der Valk Hotel Deventer if you value privacy.
The bathroom with panoramic window appears to be right next to the neighbor's balcony, without decent shielding. While we were in the bath and at the sink, the neighbor was literally looking into our bathroom from balcony 708. Only at that moment did we find out that the screen had to be completely lowered for some privacy. Perhaps we should have known that, but no one assumes that a bathroom window with such a beautiful view and a freestanding bath, exactly as it is also presented on the website, is directly adjacent to the neighbor’s balcony. Nowhere on the website or on arrival/reception is it indicated that you have to close the screen completely to be able to use the bathroom normally without looking in. This made for an incredibly uncomfortable and shocking situation.
In addition, the room was not clean either: coffee stains on the furniture, greasy handprints on glass surfaces and a general unkempt impression.
The reception was very lighthearted. It was said that a manager would get in touch, but that only happened two days later after we had to email after it again ourselves. We ended up only getting the €42 breakfast back for the coffee stains, while the biggest problem, namely the serious lack of privacy, was actually dismissed as if we had to close the screens ourselves.
What makes it even more remarkable is that the manager himself indicated that there have already been several comments and complaints about this situation. Apparently, despite previous reports, nothing is done with it.
For a Van der Valk luxury suite, this is absolutely unacceptable. Privacy should be guaranteed, especially in a bathroom.

Fine lunch.
Hotel Deventer serves a good lunch. The dishes were good quality and tasted good. The service is friendly but no time is made for a chat at the table.

Poor service
Been there last Saturday.
While loading my car, I wanted to have a drink with my family. Through the QR code I ordered drinks and paid immediately. Unfortunately, my car was already fully loaded, while we had not yet received our drinks. I then walked to the restaurant to inquire about the order. There I was told that the drinks were still being prepared. After waiting again for some time, I went to the reception to indicate that my car was now fully loaded and that I therefore wanted to receive my money back. An employee of the restaurant was brought in and I left my bank details and phone number so that the amount could be refunded. This morning I contacted your organization by phone. I was then promised I would be called back. In the afternoon I called again, but again I was told I would be called back. So far, however, I have not heard anything. I find this a very disappointing service.
I then received an email back today that they would look for a suitable solution and return the money.
What do they eventually offer me, 2 cups of coffee.
I come from South Holland myself and I also don't come near Deventer, happened to be a weekend away.
Furthermore, they did not come up with another solution, never again to vd valk.
