First Time Cape Mayer - Honest Feedback for the Grand Hotel
My husband and I had a nice experience staying at the Grand Hotel of Cape May. It was our first time ever in Cape May - and this hotel had great reviews, so we chose this one. Great price for right after Memorial Day. The hotel itself on the outside and inside is beautiful. I will say, their outdoor sign could be updated or painted - was hard to see when we arrived at night. ROOM: Clean, updated, spacious. Perfect for two people. We booked the king, partial ocean view and were on the 3rd floor. The balcony is nice with rocking chairs. We did have an issue with our room (AC did not work - stuck at 73) but it was fixed that same day. STAFF: Friendly and helpful. We had many questions when we first got there, and arrived at night, quite hungry. Jessica at the front recommended Blue Moon Pizza - which did not disappoint as the perfect late night snack delivered right to our room. PARKING: Parking is limited - but we honestly did not drive around much, we walked everywhere. Only moved our car a few times, and always found some type of spot close-enough to get to our room. I am sure that gets busier closer to the peak summer season. POOL/BEACH: We went to the pool briefly - its nice. They have a pool bar. Drinks were strong. Don't forget your towel cards! The beach is beautiful and its really nice they offer the chairs and umbrella service. That was great - the beach felt private and quiet. I ordered food as well - had a nice, giant shrimp quesadilla and a chicken wrap. Both were delicious. Also, its dry beach - no alcohol on the beach sadly. DISTANCE TO DOWNTOWN: Proximity-wise to Washington Street - it is a bit far. My husband and I do not mind walking, and the promenade starts almost right across the street from the hotel. To get into the main downtown Washington Street area, its a good 20-30 minute walk, depending on where you want to go. Bring your sneakers!
FINAL FEEDBACK: My one piece of feedback that I truly should have let the desk know, but we were rushing to leave - the slamming room doors. That is the only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. We are not complainers, but it was definitely not pleasant. I'm not sure if it was where our room was, but there is no hydraulic stopper on the doors to let them close nicely without slamming. They slam so hard that if you wanted to sleep in, it would certainly be a challenge if your neighbors are in and out or housekeeping. Pro-tip, use an app on your phone that gives you white noise, like beach or nature sounds to help mute the sounds outside your room - you'll sleep like a baby. If they can work on fixing the doors, it would be a perfect hotel!

The only negative was the view. I would choose a different room the next time. We chose the sundeck room and you could not see the ocean.

The hotel is very good, and the pools are very clean. The only thing to keep in mind is that if you are traveling with elderly people, there is quite a long walk to get to the beach, as was the case for us. Other than that, everything was excellent, and we had a very good experience.

Great family hotel- fantastic magician show and balloon animals in the lobby on certain days. Will definitely come back!

Great value
I stayed in the King-size efficiency during the mid-week special. This was my second visit during this special. It is a great value to book during the specials. The hotel is clean, has a low noise level, and has great staff. I like that it is a convenient walk to the beach with the shower and bathroom house, and the beach chairs and umbrellas. My favorite is the indoor heated pool and hot tub.
