Beautiful Property, Misleading Website
My wife and I were looking for a relaxing weekend getaway, and Foxhall Resort caught our attention. The website and photos made it look like a true resort with dining, activities, and plenty to do, so we booked a two-night stay.
The property itself is beautiful. The lakes, hiking trails, and scenery are exactly what we were hoping for. There are three scenic lakes with kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards available on a first-come, first-served basis. We only saw one couple fishing and no one else on the water, so it was incredibly peaceful. The room was clean, the air conditioning worked well, and we appreciated being upgraded to a lakeview room. Every employee we encountered was friendly, accommodating, and genuinely tried to make our stay enjoyable. They even let us use a golf cart for a few hours, which was a nice touch.
Unfortunately, our experience did not match what was advertised on the website.
The website was actually the primary reason we chose Foxhall over several other nearby hotels. It advertised a full-service restaurant serving dinner and breakfast beginning at 6:00 AM. When we arrived, we learned the restaurant was closed indefinitely, and the staff didn't know when it would reopen. Breakfast consisted of coffee beginning at 8:00 AM and a few refrigerated breakfast sandwiches that could be heated up. We tried them, and they were disappointing.
The website also advertises ATV rentals, horseback riding, trap shooting, archery, and other activities. During our stay, none of those appeared to be operating. We were offered pickleball paddles and archery equipment, but those areas were closed and unattended. If these amenities are temporarily unavailable, the website should clearly communicate that before guests book.
The pool area is beautiful and overlooks one of the lakes. Unfortunately, there was no background music or staff oversight, so one group played loud music with explicit lyrics that everyone around the pool had to listen to. It took away from what should have been a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere.
Our room was not serviced during our two-night stay. That wasn't a major issue for us, but it was another indication that services were more limited than we expected. One small detail was the in-room coffee station. The liquid creamers appeared to have been sitting there for a very long time and should have been replaced.
Foxhall also has three beautiful wedding venues. They looked like wonderful settings for weddings, and it's a shame they didn't appear to be getting much use during our visit. My concern would be for out-of-town wedding guests who book based on the amenities currently advertised on the website, only to discover that many of them are unavailable. Updating the website to accurately reflect the current guest experience would help set the right expectations and prevent disappointment.
My biggest disappointment wasn't that certain amenities weren't available. It was that none of this was communicated before we booked. Had the website accurately reflected the current amenities and services, we likely would have chosen another property for our weekend getaway. Instead, we planned our trip around dining and activities that simply weren't available, and we ended up driving about 15 minutes away for every meal.
I wouldn't describe Foxhall as a full-service resort based on our experience. It felt more like a nice hotel situated on a beautiful property. The grounds have tremendous potential, and the staff was excellent. I truly hope management updates the website to accurately reflect what is currently available and restores the amenities that attracted us to the property in the first place. If that happens, I would gladly consider giving Foxhall another try.

Cypress Lodge rental and apartment rentals for Thanksgiving
Our extended family of 20 plus rented the largest home on the property and a few apartments for 3 nights over Thanksgiving. We do this every year and have been to a few resorts. We all knew, the second we arrived that we were in the wrong place. There is no bar, there is no restaurant, there is only 1 person on staff. Amanda was the only employee we ever saw except for the poor guy they sent up to the bar so we could have a drink. We were waiting for the rest of our family to arrive. It was a Tuesday late afternoon and the bar was closed, sandwich counter was closed and the restaurant was closed. It stayed like that for most of our visit. We thought maybe we could go in to town to grab a bite but we didn't realize that the closest restaurant was 20 plus miles away. That would have been complicated for a group our size.
The Cypress house. Had a small den upstairs and a small den downstairs. The dining room seated 6. All 6 chairs had holes in the seats and had sofa pillows on them to cover them. Only 3 burners on the oven worked. The sink sprayer was broken. There were beer cans all over the yard. They had indoor chairs on the outdoor porch sitting in the rain. There were no bowls in the house. Every single bathroom had black mold on the ceilings. Almost every vent was covered in mold. There was glitter in all of the carpets and not enough towels or toilet paper. We could have washed the towels but the dryer was broken. We discovered that after sending 2 loads through the washer. We were then left with 2 sopping wet loads of laundry. The golf carts we rented could barely get up the hill to the house and we had them stolen while at the clubhouse.
Luckily we brought all of our pickleball paddles. It was the only thing we did outside the house. The tennis courts and pickleball courts are very run down. The benches were torn up. The little fishing area was very small and hard to get to for the kids. Then it rained the rest of the time and we were stuck in a house way too small for our group. The walls inside the house were filthy and covered in dirt and scratches. The curtain rods were broken and none of the curtains matched and all of them dragged the floor. The main bedroom on the main floor was really noisy. It was off the upstairs den and there wasn't anywhere else for people to visit. We could never get the AC/Heat settled. If someone was comfortable, someone else was burning up or freezing. We requested more firewood and told them that there were no engineers to deliver it. The wood they gave us lasted about 4 hours of our 3 night stay. A few of us went to find the firewood at the facility and brought it back in small loads on the golf cart.
Amanda did all she could to help us but there was only so much 1 person could do. We never saw another employee except for the bartender and someone that brought the food in and out to the buffet for the Thanksgiving meal. It was $50 a head and there was not even any bread. We weren't seated together and I think there might have been 1 or 2 other families staying there. I am still confused by that one.
More than 8 family members came down with a respiratory illness within 5 days of leaving. We don't know if it is related but you can look at the mold in the shower pictures and decide for yourself. I didn't dare get in that shower a second time. I have been in contact with Amanda and she asked me to email the General Manager and the owner. It has been a month and we still haven't heard back from Foxhall.

The property view is amazing
The villa we stayed in Beautiful
The balcony terrible, patio furniture dirty, bird poo, spider webs all over
We did the lake view so we could sit outside, but didn’t get to enjoy
Kitchen didn’t have enough silverware or plates to accommodate our party of 3
The fan in the 2nd guest room didn’t work, no one came to fix even after we requested maintenance
The pool area was nice, only 1 pool was in service, smaller pool and jacuzzi closed
The restaurant and bar hours are terrible
We stayed until Monday and there was no food or drinks available after 2pm Sunday
The menu was very limited
Because you’re not close to any restaurants or stores you can’t just leave to get food
Luckily we brought all our food

Poor management leads to frustrating experience at a nice venue
We recently hosted a wedding weekend with more than 200 guests, including the rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, and lodging. Overall, the wedding itself was beautiful and our guests had a wonderful time, but that success came largely despite the resort management, not because of it.
The positives first: the property is beautiful, especially the outdoor setting, and there are many activities for guests to enjoy. The servers, bartenders, and onsite staff members we interacted with during the event were friendly, accommodating, and genuinely pleasant to work with (kudos to Guido, Chey, and others). The actual ceremony, dinner, and reception all went smoothly thanks to our non-affiliated wedding planner and a lot of behind-the-scenes effort.
Unfortunately, the management and planning experience was frustrating throughout the entire process. Over the 7 months leading up to the wedding, our primary contact changed six different times due to turnover. Communication was inconsistent and often extremely slow. For long stretches, we had to leave messages through the front desk and wait days for responses. The General Manager, Natasha, was difficult to reach and never proactive. Even during the wedding weekend itself, she was not present to meet with us in person.
Several promised items either never happened or required repeated follow-up from us. A menu tasting that was promised was never scheduled. Assistance with reserving nearby hotel room blocks never materialized. Charges for the bridal suite appeared twice after we had already been told they were included and removed. Multiple guests reported unexpected charges added to their bills that they had to dispute. We were surprised by a mandatory $25/night “resort fee” that was not clearly disclosed until shortly before the event.
The property appears more polished from a distance than it does up close. Guests commented on stained furniture and walls, broken bathroom fixtures, squeaky doors, and general lack of maintenance and upkeep.
The food was acceptable, but not at the level we expected considering the overall price point. Food options were initially quite limited until we pushed hard for more flexibility and guest choice.
In reading other reviews, we realized many of our experiences were not isolated.
In the end, our guests enjoyed themselves and the wedding weekend was memorable, but it required a tremendous amount of extra effort from our side to compensate for poor communication, lack of organization, and weak management oversight. Foxhall has the potential to be an outstanding wedding venue because the setting is beautiful, but the operational side needs significant improvement.

Beware of Foxhall Resort
Filthy place,we stayed at the Cypress Lodge. They're so nice before you pay money and after they get your money they don't give a rat's behind about you. No response to calls, emails or letters.
