Great place to lodge in the park

The location of the Lake Lodge Cabins is great for exploring the south side of the park. With many of the cabins backing right onto forest, you can get some great wildlife sightings without leaving the area - we were woken the first night by what we're fairly sure was a grizzly banging against the cabin wall, and the local elk often visited in the mornings and evenings, which was magical. The lodge is beautifully situated so you can enjoy a view of the lake from the rocking chairs on the terrace - a very peaceful experience - or if it's too cold, the inside of the lodge is welcoming with a fire and comfy armchairs, as well as a nice corner bar. The cafeteria, Wylie's, was perhaps the weakest aspect of this lodging place. It is very much a cafeteria, and the ordering process can be a bit chaotic. There is no children's menu, and generally not much choice of food. It also doesn't open for breakfast until 6.30am, but I think that's common across the park accommodation. On the plus side, it's a nice quick place to grab a simple breakfast. We ended up making reservations for dinner at Lake Hotel, just a quick drive away, for a more satisfying dinner experience.

Did the job. No frills.

I stayed in a basic cabin that had a huge heater next to my bed. No coffee. No wifi. The bed was comfy and it was clean. Def no frills. Think I’d pay a little extra to get a slightly upgraded room. I did it realise there were different prices. Food in main hall very basic.

Disappointed

Booked for 2 adults, got a 130cm bed — impossible to sleep on together. Forced into a $150 double-queen upgrade with zero goodwill gesture. "Cabin with breathtaking view" turned out to be motel-style, stuck behind the parking lot with a view of nothing. Restaurant: $19.50 for a kid-sized mac & cheese with 5 chicken cubes. Disappointing for the price, and no customer service when things went wrong

Same Cabin Category, Very Different Experience

This was our second stay at Lake Lodge Cabins and our third trip to Yellowstone. We love the location and the convenience of staying inside the park, which is why we booked the same cabin category we enjoyed in 2025. Unfortunately, this year's cabin did not provide the same experience.
The cabin was clean, the bedding was comfortable, and the room met our basic needs. However, it felt noticeably less functional and less inviting than our previous cabin.
The room layout was awkward enough that we rotated the bed ourselves to make better use of the space. There was no bedside lamp, making it difficult for one person to sleep while the other was still awake. We also missed the shelf near the sink that our previous cabin had, as there was very little space for toiletries. The entry door did not feel especially secure, with visible gaps around the frame and a cable lock that didn't inspire much confidence.
Parking was also less convenient than during our previous stay, requiring us to walk the length of the cabin building each time we came and went. While manageable, it was less than ideal, especially in an area where guests are reminded to be "bear aware."
One thing that seemed out of place was finding a stuffed bison in the room available for purchase. Thankfully we weren't traveling with children, but I can imagine that creating unnecessary disappointment for families.
We also reported a continuously running hot-water faucet and a dripping cold-water faucet when we checked out.
Suggestions for improvement:
Reevaluate furniture placement to make better use of the space.
Add a bedside lamp.
Install a shelf near or above the sink for toiletries.
Provide a small bench or shelf in the bathroom.
Leave a broom and dustpan for guests who decline daily housekeeping.
Consider replacing the carpet with hard-surface flooring.
We still enjoy staying at Lake Lodge because of its excellent location within Yellowstone and would return again. Our disappointment was simply that this year's cabin did not live up to the excellent experience we had during our previous stay.

Great place to stay!

Overall a great place to stay. Great location and easy access to some great points of interest. Cool place to hang out at night and mingle with other people.
