We love staying at the Elwood when we visit our daughter at UK. It is clean, the staff is wonderful and helpful. The rooms are homey and have lots of space. The bed is always comfortable. This will always be my first choice.

Elwood Hotel — beautiful bones, but the experience doesn’t match

The rooms don’t carry that same design language through. The furniture reads dated next to the polish downstairs — a red retro mini-fridge, mismatched dining chairs, and a layout that feels more motel than boutique despite the mid-century-style bed frame. The carpet showed visible staining in several spots. Bedding had noticeable discoloration, and the overall upkeep felt inconsistent with the property’s presentation out front.
The atmosphere from arrival felt unwelcoming rather than hospitable, and service during a late-night check-in did not match what a Hyatt-affiliated, Mr & Mrs Smith-listed property should deliver. A follow-up call came with an apology but no resolution offered.
Bottom line: the design team and the restaurant are doing the heavy lifting here. The guest rooms and front-of-house service need real attention before this matches the promise of its own lobby.

Clean large room with plenty of space for work and planning. Easy to access with friendly staff.

Quirky Hotel in Lexington

We were on a multi-family trip and one of the families had stayed here in the past and recommended it. The location is good with lots of restaurants nearby and easy access to highways.
Everyone on staff was friendly and even helped us out when we had a mistake on our reservation. Whew!
Rooms are large, but the layout is a little strange in some of them. Everything was very clean.
No breakfast included (at least not at our rate) but the restaurant downstairs has excellent choices to start the day. There is also a bar in the lobby but it closes at 10 PM.
Good place to stay and I'd do it again next time I come to Lexington.

Excellent stay at this remodeled, non chain hotel, conveniently located and with free parking.
Beds and lines are of a high quality, large room, wide selection of foods for breakfast (not included in the room price), very friendly personnel.
Keep in mind that AC unit is rather loud.
A writing desk in the room would be nice.
