I've stayed here many times over the years. Very quiet and peaceful. We enjoy the pool. Minutes away from a really nice restaurant (Diamond Grill).

Peaceful historic retreat

The host was very kind to upgrade our room during our stay. The home is very beautifully preserved. It was wonderful to take a step back in time. The grounds are so peaceful and the beautiful southern oak trees that line the drive are timeless.

I made this reservation approximately two months ago through Hotels.com. We arrived yesterday around 12:30 PM to check in, however, the office was locked and there was no staff on site. Since there was no one available to assist us, we left to have lunch and spend some time in town.
During that time, I made multiple attempts to call, but received no answer. We returned to the property around 4:30 PM, and the office was still closed. We remained outside for approximately 45 minutes continuing to call the number listed on the website, again with no response.
Fortunately, another guest arrived, and we asked how they were able to check in. They provided us with an alternate phone number. Had we not encountered them, we would not have had any way to access our guest house.
Additionally, we selected this property specifically for the full bed and breakfast experience, including touring the plantation home and having breakfast the following morning. However, both the plantation home and breakfast area were locked. We were informed that if we happened to be present when the cleaning crew arrived, they might be able to unlock the home, which is not what we expected from our stay. There was breakfast. It was locked and had tables and chairs stacked inside.
I brought my mother here to celebrate her 78th birthday, and unfortunately, this experience was disappointing and embarrassing, as I was the one who planned and booked this trip.

Non-Typical Bed(&B), Rustic, Eerily quiet, Haunted Circa 1820 Plantation

If you want to sleep in a super tall antique bed, in an old circa 1820 haunted plantation that was once elegant, this is it. It is truly a very authentic rustic experience. Forget the “&B” unless you want microwave “grab-and-go” frozen sausage egg and biscuit sandwiches; picture attached. Yes, it was an available free breakfast; we passed on them. They also provided 2 bottles of water and 2 bottles of juice, conveniently located in a small refrigerator in our room. They were refreshing. There was also a single cup coffee maker, with coffee. I don’t know what changed since the prior reviews, but this was NOT a breakfast we expected based upon Trip Advisor reviews, and pictures. Nor was it a breakfast like we have received at other historic B&Bs. After we left, we checked their website. My wife had to point out the small disclaimers IN the bottom of the top pictures. Please see their website to view it. We were supposed to receive emailed instructions before checking in on Friday, but we didn’t. I had to call the number on the sign out front as well as calling the Trip Advisor help line. A pleasant lady did respond to my voicemail left at Loyd Hall management, and texted what should have been emailed to me. They were guest quick references, including how to get into our room. Apparently no management is on the premises except when they are doing maintenance or cleaning.
The lady was nice and polite on the phone. She was on the premises on Saturday and was busy working. We had booked a cottage, but were pleasantly surprised to find that we were now staying in the Jenkins Suite in the main house. This was due to the A/C having issues in the cottage. It was interesting to tour the house and see the heavy ornate wood antiques. As it was self-guided, we didn’t know the history of anything we saw and nothing was labeled. The large dining tables were bare, but I bet it looks impressive when they hold events. The stairs from that period are narrow. Our suite was large. It has a modern later edition bathroom that was quite nice, with a huge craw-foot tub w/aeration holes at the bottom. I am 5’ 9 1/2” and the comfortable bed’s height was up past my navel! Both my wife (picture attached by bed) and I had difficulty getting into the bed, even with a provided tiny round step to use. Use caution getting out of bed as well, as it is a long drop. There are ceiling fans. If you use a CPAP, bring a multiple connection adapter. This is an historic old house that was later wired for minimal electricity near the outer walls.
ALLERGY WARNING! If you have allergies, please take medication the night before, and night of, sleeping in the main house. I awoke having difficulty breathing with allergy symptoms during the night we stayed in the Jenkins Suite. I don’t know exactly what triggered it. There is central A/C in the main house. Most rooms have their own fire places. While the furniture surfaces were dusted, that is about all that appeared to be. All of the original surfaces are authentically old and not in the best condition. The paint is peeling in various places on the ceilings and around the windows. Their website does mention restoration, but it is very easy to miss and hard to read. The couch in the sitting(?) tv (satellite) room leading into the bedroom was comfortable. All things considered, after my wife and I both experienced bugs crawling on us while sitting on the couch, we decided that we didn’t want to spend the 2nd night that we had paid for. In packing, a ‘stink’ bug was found crawling on the bathroom counter. It was a bit too authentically rustic for us. A 2.5 hour drive was preferable to another night with the breakfast that was available. It wasn’t worth it to us to stay another night for. We left late Saturday afternoon. We thought we could trust what we read, and saw in pictures, on Trip Advisor, but for this site, do more research before you decide to stay. It is worth the experience of staying one night in an authentic rustic haunted plantation house
