Lovely Property

I stayed here for several nights on a business trip recently. The property is lovely. Most rooms are well off the beach and do not have an ocean view, but they all center off beautiful grounds with garden views. The property is immaculate. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. I had the opportunity to each at two of their restaurants and both were amazing, the sushi restaurant was particularly awesome and rivaled some of the very expensive sushi I had in Tokyo a couple months before. It is a short walk to the beach from the rooms and there is a funny train track that cuts the property in half, but the trains do not go by and night and very quiet somehow. The service is impeccable. I also found its location great, it was a short jaunt into town and the house car can take you.

One of the most beautiful and most expensive hotels in USA with bad service and oil slicks all around the seashore!

We stayed at Rosewood Santa Barbara for 2 nights. Upon arrival at 4:30 pm (check-in time is 4:00 pm there) we have been informed that our room isn’t ready yet and housekeeping is preparing it. But nobody can tell when it’s ready. Later we realised that previous guests even haven’t left it yet. So it seemed hotel charged them for the late check-out (as normal check-out time is 12:00) and expected us to arrive later. Finally we’ve got our room just at 5:50 pm! We had to wait for our room for 1,5 hours after a long journey. After a serious talk - hotel management offered us a compensation of the two hours room price as a hotel deposit for extras.
Later I found out that during check-in receptionist mistakenly charged my credit card twice for our stay! They cancelled one transaction finally but the funds returned to my card just after 10 days!
Frankly speaking the hotel design is stunning! Everything is very beautiful and i don’t know any other similar hotel at US. Even the train crossing its territory every ~30 min adds a great charm to it.
But please be prepared that you don’t really have a big selection of restaurants here. There are three restaurants at the hotel. But during our 2 nights stay Japanese one was closed because of its days off. Michelin one with a sea view was closed for corporate event by some bank, which seems very strange! If you close the restaurant for an event - you could change day off at Japanese one! So we had to have two dinners and a lunch all the time just at the the main restaurant. It was good, but not excellent.
But the bad thing with the main restaurant is breakfast. Waiting time for the food is VERY long and waiters are very weak! They never bring you cutleries, glasses, make mistakes with your order etc. Breakfast service in comparison with dinner service is absolutely terrible!
If you want to swim at the ocean - of course it’s very cold, but some people still swim. But during swimming and walking at the beach be prepared that your legs and swimsuits will be covered by oil slicks. There are a lot of them there. For your legs you can use special cleaning tissues in your room, but two our swimsuits have been spoilt forever.

My new favorite hotel!

Definitely one of the most beautiful hotels I have stayed at! Service was excellent, grounds are gorgeous and food is delicious.

Best of the Best

We love an upscale 5 star hotel, and this ranks as one of our fav. There is something uniquely elegant about this place, and you don't really get "it" until you are there. Dogs and babies everywhere - but not in an annoying way. We were there without our kids and it still very much caters to a couples getaway vibe as well. The clientele is a very polished West Coast but somehow Nantucket-feeling crowd.
Staff/service is amazing. Personable, kind, above and beyond.
Rooms are stunning. We stayed in a a garden bungalow room which were one story buildings that had a very private outdoor area to beautiful gardens.
The food was amazing everywhere we ate. For a special experience try Caruso's.

Rosewood Montecito Disapointment

The hotel grounds are absolutely beautiful as the gardeners are perfectionists.
The rooms we had were well appointed and generous in size.
Unfortunately, there were so many issues with the team work in other areas, that it made the stay extremely disappointing.
The pool staff ( except for the 2 ladies taking food and drink orders ) was lazy and negligent in taking care of the pool area. Glasses and food items were left for hours before being cleaned up. They were more concerned with their conversations with each other at the bar area than taking care of the guests.
Housekeeping was also flawed with not servicing the room as requested and agreed to. We had to call several times for the same reasons.
They also left areas outside the room unattended as some disrespectful guests left glasses outside rooms and they were there for days.
At breakfast we would ask for a table and each day, we’re told it would be about 10 minutes to get a table ready. When you looked inside most of the tables were empty and fully set and available, but we had to wait.
At the front desk, organization and communication was lacking. We were never told or given information on activities and how to make sure we were to properly apply room charges. On one of our rooms they mistakenly identified it as checked out and we couldn’t get access. We had to go back to the front desk to correct the situation. At checkout we spent about 1/2 hour reviewing our bill and had to make many charges as they were not properly entered.
In total, this Rosewood location needs to initiate a total review and training of its employees and departments.
It’s true potential is not close to being maximized and deserves the score I provided.
