Nice clean room. I was worried that the carpets might be gross, but they looked very clean. Older furnishings, especially the patio furnishings, which may have been the only really dirty items. Comfy bed and pillows, slept like a rock. Would stay there again. Pool and hot tub were out of service, would have been nice to use.

Room was unusable because of a strong sewage odor

I checked into Room 219 at Americas Best Value Presidents Inn in Monterey. As soon as I entered, I noticed an extremely strong incense smell. Even with the incense, there was still a powerful sewage-like odor throughout the room.
I opened the door and window before leaving for dinner, hoping the room would air out. When I returned approximately two hours later, the odor had not improved. It was overwhelming that I could not remain in the room for more than 10 minutes. I had no reasonable choice but to leave the property and book another last minute expensive hotel at my own expense.
I raised the issue with hotel management several times and also contacted Capital One Travel, through which I had made the reservation. After Capital One Travel negotiated with the hotel, the hotel refunded half of the room charge, even though I could not stay there.
A hotel room should be clean, sanitary, and suitable for sleeping. Based on my experience, Room 219 is the only one room I entered and it simply did not meet that basic standard. I strongly recommend that management investigate and correct the source of the odor. I am posting this review to warn prospective guests that some rooms in this hotel may not be suitable to stay.

Our staff later found that a concentrated cleaning product had been used to clean the room and the room had not been aired out properly. We have corrected this issue. Average experience

The Americas Best Value Presidents Inn on Munras Avenue offers fairly clean, spacious rooms equipped with the essentials for a no-frills stay. Available to guests are a TV, Wi-Fi connection, microwave oven, refrigerator, toaster, and a coffee corner, in addition to a sufficient personal hygiene kit. The property provides free parking and welcoming staff, ensuring good value for money in an otherwise expensive area. The location is ideal for reaching both the beaches and the center in about five minutes by car. At the time of the visit, the pool was closed.

Poor service, fine room

Had a hard time checking into the hotel, guy at the front said it was because we booked 3rd party (used TripAdvisor) and we had to call TripAdvisor support to get it sorted out. Before we called he basically said there was nothing we could do except pay the difference. I personally don’t feel like that hotel was worth over $400 for 2 nights so I refused to pay and had TripAdvisor handle everything for me. It was kind of a hassle to deal with that after the 3 hour drive but worked out in the end. Tv was also kind of broken for a second, had to restart the whole DVR to get it to work. Room was decently clean and the balcony view was nice, it looked out onto the street/park.
The room itself was fine for the most part, no AC but had a decent fan that kept it cool. It was a 50 min walk to the aquarium which was pretty nice.
Because of the service I will be finding a different hotel in the future.

Third-party reservations should never result in that level of difficulty. In this case, TripAdvisor booked your room through the Hopper site. Prior to your arrival, we noticed a rate discrepancy and notified Hopper of the issue. Unfortunately, Hopper’s customer service insisted on speaking with the guest before taking action. We repeatedly tried to convince the agent not to involve you, but they were adamant. Consequently, upon your arrival, we had to ask you to contact your travel agency directly.
We are glad TripAdvisor was able to resolve the issue, and we sincerely appreciate your patience throughout the process. We also apologize for the temporary TV issue and will ensure our maintenance team double-checks the equipment.

The hotel was clean and the bed was comfortable. It was a good value for the price. No frills, but conveniently located with a friendly helpful staff. Nice thick towels and free parking. Close to lots of shopping and restaurants.
