Great Experience!!!
Very good stay at the Poway Best Western. Great great customer service super welcoming and accommodating. Rooms are clean and kept well. Plenty of parking in the back and very easy to get to. I found parking in front of my rooms every night. Super convenient. Definitely we will be back again. Breakfast was great the chili was so delicious. I found fresh coffee all day available and that was amazing.

The area was pretty clean and safe. With that being said, it probably has one of the worst mattresses we've slept on. It literally felt like springs and sheets. The pillows are also terrible. If you're looking to save some money and sleep is not important to you, then it is passable.

A Dirty, Disappointing Experience
Ever since I was really young, I have taken countless trips to San Diego, staying at various hotels all around. The Best Western Poway/San Diego Hotel is an affordable motel-like hotel in the quiet suburb of Poway, located around 30 minutes north of Downtown San Diego. I stayed in a room with 1 king bed on the 2nd floor of this hotel for 1 night during Comic-Con weekend in July 2026, paying around $268 / night before tax. On a scale of 1 to 5 stars, how many stars does the Best Western Poway/San Diego Hotel get? It’s going to get what? It’s going to get 2.5 stars. So now I will go into the pros and the cons as to why this hotel got 2.5 stars and why it didn’t get 5 stars:
PROS:
1. Quiet, Safe Neighborhood - The 1st pro is that this hotel is in a safe city and neighborhood. Poway is one of the safest cities in and around San Diego. The area surrounding the hotel was pretty quiet, especially at night.
2. Nice, Friendly Staff - The 2nd pro is that the staff were very nice and friendly. The staff were kind during check-in and check-out, and gave a free bottle of water at check-in. They made the process very quick and simple.
3. In Room TV - The 3rd pro is the TV inside the hotel room. The TV has various channels, from the local news to the Disney Channel to Cartoon Network to the Discovery Channel, and much more.
CONS:
Now as to why this hotel did not get 5 stars.
1. Far Away from Major Tourist Attractions - The 1st con is that this hotel is far away from many of San Diego’s most well-known attractions. A drive to Downtown San Diego or Balboa Park takes a minimum of 25-30 minutes and can take longer during rush hour. If you’re looking to stay near the action and the attractions, find a hotel closer; this place ain’t it.
2. Lack of Elevators On Site - The 2nd con is that there are no elevators on site. Having 2 floors in the hotel and no elevators, it makes it hard for elderly travelers and those with heavy luggage to get up and down.
3. Lack of Good Signage in Hallways - The 3rd con is the lack of good signage in the hallway. After check-in, I felt lost for a few minutes trying to find my assigned room.
4. Limited Breakfast - The 4th con is that while I am glad the hotel offered free breakfast, the breakfast was very limited. Other than the sausage and egg patties and the fresh apple and orange juice, the rest of the food was mostly the basic apples and oranges you can take, as well as instant food. Within the egg and sausage patties, I felt the quality of the egg patties could have been better.
Now on to the fatal cons on why this property only earned 2.5 stars:
5. Outdated Property and Deferred Maintenance - The 5th con is that the hotel and the room were very outdated abd in need of repairs. There was a lot of rust on the A/C controls. The floor on the bathtub was also not a pleasant sight to see; a lot of the paint was coming off, showing the bathtub’s age and deferred maintenance. Some of the handles on the drawers in the room were loose and/or coming off. The ice and vending machines by the parking spaces on the 1st floor also had a lot of condensation on them. The hotel and surrounding area can for sure use a major renovation.
6. Dirty Room - The 6th con and I would say the most fatal con was that upon my arrival around 9 pm at night, the room was not cleaned very well. The A/C area was rusty and dirty, the closet lacked a sliding door, the paint had already come off most of the bathtub, and there was even toothpaste from a previous guest left stained on the wall by the bathroom sink. Overall, what a disappointment.
To sum this up, these pros and cons are why I feel the Best Western Poway/San Diego Hotel deserves 2.5 stars. Would the cons prevent me from staying here again? Unfortunately, they probably would, especially at that price point. I cannot give a good rating to a hotel that does not keep its property and rooms clean. Without elevators on site, I strongly recommend those with the elderly to avoid this hotel, especially rooms on the 2nd floor.While I enjoyed the fresh apple and orange juice in the morning, the outdatedness and the dirtiness of the room and property were a major disappointment. Would not be returning again for a long while.

The only part is I'm still waiting on my deposit to be added to my Cash App account. Haven't received that yet still waiting for it.It's been about three weeks

We were harassed by a guest , sitting on the stairs in the back parking lot before we even entered the lobby. The area was very sketchy and we felt very unsafe. Decided not to stay and made new reservations at another hotel
