Fabulous in so many ways, but room design falls short
This hotel had a lot of really great things:
-quiet, under the radar location, but close to amazing restaurants, shops, the river and walkable to soho, etc
-friendly staff
-wonderful green outdoor private courtyard for guests only
-dark, moody, cozy common areas
-zen subterranean pool, spa, steam room, relaxation area
-original art by DeNiro Sr.
-excellent food and drinks
-large, fully equipped gym with cool vibes
-we did not partake in the spa due to lack of time, but it looked top-notch and smelled of divinely scented incense
-great plumbing fixtures, tile and water pressure in the baths
-the sheets
-down stuffed upholstery and hand knotted rugs on wood floors in the rooms
What I struggled with was the fact that the room decor was underwhelming to put it mildly. I wish that the vibe from the lounge, courtyard and common spaces had been carried into the rooms (which are by no means inexpensive). Design is key for me when picking a hotel. Yes, cozy is always a must, but it also needs to be sexy, luxurious and a little unexpected...you know, something we wouldn't find at home....or in this case, in my great grandma's abode. My advice, for what it is worth (btw, I am an interior designer): 1. Ditch the wood bed for obvious aesthetic reasons, but also because I stubbed my toe on it numerous times. 2. Add art! The walls are bland and boring. 3. Channel the downstairs vibes upstairs. 4. Add a bigger mirror that doesn't look like it came from Ikea. 5. Wallcovering always goes a long way, but this one falls flat. 5. Ceiling fixtures are probably intentionally small to be quirky, but the result is sad. 6. The ceiling could benefit from a wood treatment or wallcovering. 7. Fix stuck doors and toilets that don't flush properly.
One more thing...the noise on floor 2 is tough for good sleep. Original floors are beautiful, but creaky. The restaurant noise below is audible.
Despite everything, I had a great time and would like to return if I could get my husband to come back...I'll take the under on that.

The most relaxing stay in NYC!
The Greenwich Hotel was everything I dreamed it would be. An absolutely incredible stay in NYC. Not only is the hotel beautiful, it is like stepping into a secret garden of sorts, a haven amidst the hustle and bustle. Additionally, all the staff we interacted with treated us with the kindness and an elevated level of hospitality.
The room itself was superb, it had everything we needed and was profoundly comfortable. I could have slept the whole time in that bed had the city not called me to explore! As many have mentioned, I also appreciated the special touches in the room, hand written welcome, high quality bath products, complimentary beverages, and need I say the twizzlers!? These little touches, although simple, add that extra level of thoughtfulness which goes a long way.
In terms of food and dining, we enjoyed the breakfast each morning in the green courtyard. Coffee 10/10!
Lastly, the spa! I know many go specifically to the Greenwich for the spa and I can understand why. Although they were pretty booked, I was able to get in one appointment for a massage and enjoyed the beautiful amenities of the spa. A very tranquil place and the pool was divine.
Overall staying here was such a lovely experience. I would 100% recommend it and will certainly return. Until next time!

Look no further for your NYC splurge!
The Greenwich Hotel has, quite simply, ruined us for any other hotel splurge in NYC. The staff is just amazing and so welcoming, the rooms are incredible (stocked snacks and soft drinks at no charge? UNHEARD OF), the bathroom is luxurious with great water pressure, and the lounge and lobby are so relaxing and beautiful. The courtyard was closed for the Winter, but it looked gorgeous. The pool and spa services are unmatched, and it is such a serene environment. Don't bother looking around anywhere else for a special stay and feeling pampered the entire time - THIS is the place. The room service and lobby food were delicious, and the rooms are thoughtfully designed to maximize living space. Requests are fulfilled quickly and with care, and there are many perks that come with your stay - house car, in room coffee and tea kettle/service, great marble soaking tub by request in your room, and all of the soft spaces, including the pool relaxation area. The neighborhood is awesome, with lots of small shopping places and unique spots to eat, as well as easy access to the WTC sites and memorial. We will definitely be back again and again.
