Charming castle with charming staff
A romantic castle with an idyllic garden. The hotel rooms on the first floor are simple but spacious and functional. The castle is situated in Pomaz, a small town close to the Danube river. It is used for international music events, and is also a popular place for weddings and parties.
The restaurant serves traditional Hungarian food and wine. Pomaz is close to Budapest and a stone throw away from Szentendre.
Even though the castle is "modernized", and e.g. has an elevator installed, it gives you the feeling of central European nobility.
The staff.is friendly and charming, with that extra touch of Hungarian galantry.

Dorm-like Rooms
Lovely grounds. But that’s it. They lost our reservation but managed to put us in their “last room.” It’s like a dorm. Basic. Twin beds. No air conditioning -,just a fan. We had to move one bed for a member of our party who uses a CPAP, because there was no plug by the bed. Parking is far from where rooms are, but you can unload and then move the car. A converted castle sounds good. But this place is FAR from being a castle. This is our last night in Hungary after traveling and staying in many places. This is by far the worst lodging. I guess it will make us happy to go home.

Cheap and passable - could be great
First impression: hard to find on the map if you drive there (Google takes you to a gate that is not open and you need to improvise from there; signage is non-existent: it is marked as a school, not a hotel).
Parking is a nightmare. The parking lot was far away from the castle and was full, and the phone number on the gate that could get you to the castle was out of order: parking was only available in the nearby winding medieval streets.
We had to drag the suitcases up over several flights of stairs and through deep gravel. Then try to find check-in that is not marked and also functions as a cafe, so one does not know if this is the right place and who is in line, etc. I have been in countless hotels, but this was by far the least accessible (I am not handicapped, but a competitive athlete, still…)
Check-in is a bit complicated, and personnel is neither too helpful or friendly, nor very professional (they were not incompetent or rude, but did nothing to make you feel welcomed or at ease)
The rooms are quite spartan, and beds are small and not very comfortable, but that is ok for the price we paid. Bathroom is nice and the place was clean.
Elevator cannot be called to the room level so you need to drag your suitcases down the stairs for checkout (it’s inconvenient, but people unable to do so were already filtered out when trying to approach the building)
Breakfast was basic and is in the cellar that does not smell too good (well it stinks a bit) and you need to bring your coffee down from the check-in counter over a flight of stairs. Thank goodness there is no refill so you don’t need to repeat that.
The building is nice to look at, the rooms were clean, and the amenities are ok. With some minimal attention (signage, check-in process, staff training in hospitality) this could be a 4-star experience.

It could be better....
If somebody is traveling to Budapest, a chateau could be a good choose. But - unfortunately- not here. The building is nice, The service is not bad (They would make a good style, as in a very good restaurant in Budapest)- but the personal is not too god. The meals are so, as they would make an experimental kitchen: Some new, good, but unfortunately, the experiment is not too successful. The tastes could be better. They TRY to make good meals, excellent soup, etc. - but they - can't. So, it is about 6 from 10 points. It is better, I think, if You remain in Budapest. : ((((

Szép, tiszta szobák
Családi hosszú hétvégét töltöttünk el. A szoba három ágyas, az egyik ágy egy kicsot fáradt volt. Tisztaság volt mindenhol, a személyzet figyelmes és barátságos. A reggeli és a vacsota bőséges és finom volt. Csak ajánlani tudom.
