Third Year in a Row – Still Our Definition of a Perfect Luxury Holiday
This was our third stay at Stella Island in three consecutive years, and after spending another full holiday here, our conclusion remains exactly the same: for us, Stella Island is one of those rare hotels that manages to combine beautiful design with genuinely outstanding hospitality.
Of course, the resort is incredibly photogenic – the pools, palm trees, architecture and overall design are beautiful. But what keeps bringing us back is not Instagram. It is the actual experience behind it.
From the moment we arrived, the entire resort was extremely clean, well maintained and cared for. Our room was beautiful, comfortable and in excellent condition, and the whole environment felt fresh and immaculate throughout our stay. The attention to detail is one of the things we particularly appreciate here.
We also found Stella Island to be exactly what we expect from an adults-only luxury resort: relaxed, peaceful and comfortable. We slept very well, enjoyed quiet time around our room and pool, and never felt that the atmosphere was intrusive or chaotic. Even when the hotel is lively in the evenings, it still manages to maintain that special holiday feeling.
Another huge strength is the food. After three visits, we have eaten in the different restaurants many times, and the quality and variety continue to impress us. Isla, La Parilla and Umami each have their own character, and both the food and presentation consistently feel appropriate for a high-end resort. For us, dining at Stella Island is genuinely one of the highlights of the holiday rather than simply something that looks good in photographs.
The same applies to the overall service. Luxury is not only about architecture, pools or expensive rooms – it is about how people make you feel. And this is where Stella Island is particularly strong.
The staff throughout the resort are exceptionally friendly, professional and attentive. Whether in the restaurants, bars, reception, guest relations, fitness area or with the drivers, we repeatedly experienced genuine hospitality rather than rehearsed service. Requests were handled quickly and professionally, and whenever we needed anything, somebody was there to help.
We also appreciate that there is much more to our days here than simply lying next to a pool. The daily CrossFit sessions have become one of our personal highlights and are a fantastic way to start the morning. Between training, the different pools, restaurants, bars, wellness options and simply enjoying the resort, we have never found a stay here boring – quite the opposite.
What also deserves recognition is how seriously the management and staff appear to take guest satisfaction. Over several years we have always felt welcomed, listened to and looked after. That consistency is probably the strongest compliment we can give a hotel.
A beautiful resort can photograph well once. Maintaining an excellent guest experience year after year is much harder.
Stella Island has done exactly that for us.
Three visits, three wonderful holidays, and once again we leave with the feeling that we will return.

Unreal
Genuinely outstanding on everything. We haven’t found a fault yet. we thought we would be a little disheartened because we had a room in the hotel that wasn’t a swim up or one of the bungalows or anything like the villas however we found that by being on the Sun lounges and getting waited on hand and foot around the pool all day was so much more beneficial to me and my partner and our honeymoon than being in our own private area.

Best ever place!
We have just returned from Stella Island after spending 11 nights here. This place is truly amazing! Actually more than this if that is possible!
The rooms are clean and serviced daily and very comfortable with fridges replenished daily.
Food is delicious with presentation unreal. Each restaurant has its differences but all food cooked to a high standard. Drinks are delicious especially the cocktails!!!
The grounds are spotless and maintained morning, noon and night!
The staff who look after are simply the jewel in the crown here. They work so so hard and i want to publically thank them all especially the staff at Umbra bar who are Gilman, Natasha, Maria, Philip, Mae, Ankit. Their level of service is a credit to you!

Beautiful but needs some tweaking
My husband and I stayed in an island Villa for 7 nights all inclusive for our honeymoon.
Good points……
For us the food in each area was outstanding, great selection and tasted amazing!!!
Having our own private pool was the best decision we made as all the swim up rooms had zero privacy whatsoever.
Room was cleaned everyday with fresh bed linen and towels.
The majority of staff were friendly and super efficient.
Bad points…….
The awful stench of sewage coming from our toilet was at times unbearable, this was reported and maintenance came quickly, however, unfortunately the relief was temporary and we had the smell back in a couple of hours.
The fridge in our room was useless, when it’s roasting hot outside you need cold drinks. This was also reported and we were told by maintenance that it’s a mini fridge and that’s how cold it gets. Sorry but no one likes warm beer!
Some of the finishing touches in our room could have been better. Switches loose and hanging off the wall. The bed was uncomfortable, with a dip in the middle.
The service in the buffet restaurant was so slow!! Ridiculously so. To get a drink took forever and some of the staff in there appeared miserable and unfriendly. We ate in there on our first night and never went back.
Which brings me onto the restaurant booking via the app. We could not book and evening restaurants the first couple of nights so as we only had the buffet left to use we went outside the hotel to find a restaurant instead which obviously incurred an extra cost.
Also we were told we couldn’t order more than 1 dish for our lunch, my husband wanted a steak, which we were told was for 2 and that’s not something I eat, we basically had to barter with the waiter for me to have something else. We were all inclusive! I shouldn’t have to negotiate a meal!
The evening entertainment whilst very good the first couple of times it was repetitive so we didn’t go again, I feel this needs to be mixed up a bit.
The hotel is stunning there is no denying that, some of the staff were exceptional, the food out of this world but would I pay £1k a night to go here again? No I’m afraid not, it’s simply not worth that in our opinion, paying that much shouldn’t incur room service charges, poor room finish/smell or having to negotiate food.

Stella Island — Five-Star Marketing, Three-Star Reality
Stella Island is an excellent example of what happens when Instagram aesthetics are mistaken for luxury.
It photographs beautifully. Palm trees, immaculate-looking pools, white buildings and strategically placed loungers create precisely the image required to sell an expensive adults-only escape.
Unfortunately, you cannot holiday in a photograph.
Having spent seven nights here, I genuinely struggle to understand the extraordinary hype surrounding this resort. If your definition of luxury is a palm tree, a floating breakfast and somewhere attractive to photograph yourself for Instagram, you will probably think you’ve arrived in paradise.
If you’ve actually experienced exceptional five-star hospitality, you may wonder what on earth you’ve paid for.
THE ROOMS — REMARKABLY ORDINARY
Strip away the pool outside and the carefully curated photographs, and the rooms are surprisingly bog-standard.
Nothing particularly sumptuous. Nothing especially impressive. Nothing that made me walk in and think, this is five-star luxury.
Some of the decking and finishes were already looking tired and in need of attention. For a resort presenting itself at this level, the maintenance simply wasn’t good enough. Luxury is in the details — and unfortunately, the details are precisely where Stella Island begins to unravel.
And then we have the doors.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
From approximately 7 a.m., the door-slamming begins. At night, it continues.
One would imagine that a hotel selling itself as a tranquil adults-only honeymoon retreat might have discovered the revolutionary technology known as a soft-closing door.
Apparently not.
WANT A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP? GOOD LUCK.
The marketing sells serenity.
Our experience delivered people sitting around the outdoor fire-pit areas talking until approximately 3.30 a.m., doors slamming, late-night arguments and noise travelling around the resort.
Nothing whispers romantic luxury retreat quite like lying awake listening to somebody else’s domestic dispute in the early hours.
The evening entertainment didn’t particularly help the sophisticated atmosphere either. One performance involved scantily dressed male and female dancers performing highly suggestive routines.
Perhaps somebody’s idea of romantic honeymoon entertainment.
It certainly wasn’t mine.
THE SMELL
Now to something the glossy photographs cannot capture: the smell.
We experienced a recurring sewage/excrement-type odour coming from the drains in our room.
Staff would attend, flush the drains and add fragranced products. Wonderful — until a few hours later, when the smell returned.
There is something rather surreal about paying luxury-resort prices while sitting in your supposedly five-star room wondering whether the drains are about to stage an uprising.
No amount of palm trees can disguise the smell of sewage.
SMOKING
Fancy relaxing outside your expensive room and enjoying some fresh air?
That depends entirely upon whether your neighbour fancies chain-smoking on their terrace.
During our stay, smoking in outdoor areas meant cigarette smoke could drift directly across neighbouring terraces. If cigarette smoke bothers you, I would investigate the hotel’s current smoking arrangements carefully before spending thousands on your peaceful retreat.
Nothing says wellness quite like an involuntary side order of somebody else’s cigarette smoke with your morning coffee.
THE “FINE DINING”
This one genuinely amused me.
The food photographs are beautiful. The reality?
Fine.
Not terrible. Not exceptional. Just fine.
I have experienced genuinely excellent fine dining, and this wasn’t it. Presentation and theatrical-looking photographs do not automatically make something gastronomically exceptional.
I suspect Gordon Ramsay would have several observations.
THE €100 FLOATING BREAKFAST ♀️
Then we arrive at perhaps the perfect metaphor for Stella Island: the famous floating breakfast.
During our stay, this cost €100.
For that €100, the theatrical element involved a woman dressed as a mermaid bringing the breakfast into the pool on what appeared to me to be a polystyrene-style floating tray.
Unfortunately, some of the magic rather disappeared when I could see the “mermaid” getting herself dressed before entering the pool.
Hardly the seamless, polished luxury experience the photographs might have you imagining.
There is something unintentionally hilarious about watching the preparation behind the spectacle and then being presented with it moments later as an exclusive €100 luxury experience.
And that, for me, rather encapsulates Stella Island.
You’re not necessarily paying €100 for an extraordinary breakfast. You’re paying €100 for the photograph of an extraordinary breakfast.
Once you’ve seen behind the curtain, the illusion rather disappears.
Instagrammable? Absolutely.
Worth €100?
Not to me.
€8 FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF ORDERING ROOM SERVICE
Want something delivered to your room? During our stay, there was an €8 room-service charge each time we ordered.
If you’re staying in lower-level accommodation with direct pool access, don’t necessarily expect somebody to appear poolside anticipating your every need. In our experience, getting a drink meant either ordering it to the room and paying the service charge or getting dressed and walking to the bar.
At a genuine five-star resort, luxury means convenience.
Here, sometimes it simply means paying extra for inconvenience.
Those staying upstairs have another delightful holiday pastime available to them: finding a sunbed around the communal pool.
Exactly what everybody dreams of when booking a premium adults-only escape.
THE SPA — SAVE YOUR MONEY
I also tried the aromatherapy massage.
I wish I hadn’t.
It was one of the poorest massages I’ve experienced and certainly nowhere near the standard I expected from a resort positioning its spa as a luxury experience.
I cannot recommend that particular treatment based upon my experience.
SEVEN DAYS OF… SITTING BY A POOL
There is another problem nobody’s perfectly edited TikTok reel seems particularly keen to mention:
There isn’t much to do.
Pool. Eat. Pool. Drink. Pool. Photograph pool. Look at another pool.
Repeat.
If lying horizontally beside water for seven consecutive days constitutes your dream holiday, fantastic.
I was bored.
Seven nights felt far too long, and towards the end I was genuinely counting down the time until I could go home.
I had actually returned from another holiday shortly before visiting Stella Island. That hotel was four-star.
I would choose it over Stella Island again tomorrow.
THE ATMOSPHERE
This may be controversial, but it was part of my experience.
The sophisticated honeymoon atmosphere portrayed online did not always resemble the atmosphere I encountered.
There were plenty of aspiring Instagram-content moments, considerable drinking amongst some guests, late-night conversations, arguments and behaviour that felt rather more reminiscent of a lively package holiday than an exclusive romantic retreat.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying that sort of holiday.
There is, however, a considerable disconnect when you’re paying luxury-retreat prices because the marketing has led you to expect something entirely different.
AND FINALLY…
When criticism was raised, I didn’t always feel it was particularly welcomed.
That is perhaps one of the most disappointing aspects.
Truly exceptional hotels obsess over details. They listen. They maintain standards relentlessly. They don’t simply rely upon beautiful architecture and social-media hype to convince guests that they’re experiencing luxury.
Stella Island is undeniably photogenic.
But photogenic and luxurious are not synonyms.
A swimming pool outside your room doesn’t automatically make a room luxurious.
A palm tree doesn’t create five-star service.
Pretty plating doesn’t automatically constitute fine dining.
A €100 breakfast doesn’t become exceptional simply because it floats.
And an Instagram reel certainly cannot show you slamming doors, late-night arguments, cigarette smoke drifting across your terrace or the smell coming from a drain.
Perhaps that explains the enormous discrepancy between the Stella Island I saw online and the Stella Island I actually experienced.
If you’ve never experienced genuinely high-end hospitality, Stella Island may feel spectacular.
If you’re accustomed to impeccable five-star hotels — where exceptional service, tranquillity, maintenance, food and attention to detail are simply expected rather than advertised — I would manage your expectations very carefully.
I certainly left considerably less impressed.
Stella Island didn’t feel like luxury to me. It felt like an extremely successful photoshoot with bedrooms attached.
Seven nights.
Plenty of photographs.
€100 for a floating breakfast.
Absolutely no desire to return.

If lying horizontally beside water for seven consecutive days constitutes your dream holiday, fantastic.
I was bored.
Seven nights felt far too long, and towards the end I was genuinely counting down the time until I could go home.
I had actually returned from another holiday shortly before visiting Stella Island. That hotel was four-star.
I would choose it over Stella Island again tomorrow.
THE ATMOSPHERE
This may be controversial, but it was part of my experience.
The sophisticated honeymoon atmosphere portrayed online did not always resemble the atmosphere I encountered.
There were plenty of aspiring Instagram-content moments, considerable drinking amongst some guests, late-night conversations, arguments and behaviour that felt rather more reminiscent of a lively package holiday than an exclusive romantic retreat.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying that sort of holiday.
There is, however, a considerable disconnect when you’re paying luxury-retreat prices because the marketing has led you to expect something entirely different.
AND FINALLY…
When criticism was raised, I didn’t always feel it was particularly welcomed.
That is perhaps one of the most disappointing aspects.
Truly exceptional hotels obsess over details. They listen. They maintain standards relentlessly. They don’t simply rely upon beautiful architecture and social-media hype to convince guests that they’re experiencing luxury.
Stella Island is undeniably photogenic.
But photogenic and luxurious are not synonyms.
A swimming pool outside your room doesn’t automatically make a room luxurious.
A palm tree doesn’t create five-star service.
Pretty plating doesn’t automatically constitute fine dining.
A €100 breakfast doesn’t become exceptional simply because it floats.
And an Instagram reel certainly cannot show you slamming doors, late-night arguments, cigarette smoke drifting across your terrace or the smell coming from a drain.
Perhaps that explains the enormous discrepancy between the Stella Island I saw online and the Stella Island I actually experienced.
If you’ve never experienced genuinely high-end hospitality, Stella Island may feel spectacular.
If you’re accustomed to impeccable five-star hotels — where exceptional service, tranquillity, maintenance, food and attention to detail are simply expected rather than advertised — I would manage your expectations very carefully.
I certainly left considerably less impressed.
Stella Island didn’t feel like luxury to me. It felt like an extremely successful photoshoot with bedrooms attached.
Seven nights.
Plenty of photographs.
€100 for a floating breakfast.
Absolutely no desire to return.
