An amazing holiday with everyday a new adventure.
Balangan Surf Resort is a amazing place to stay with bungalows overlooking beautiful gardens next to a lovely swimming pool.
The restaurant offers delicious wholesome food's which overlooks a famous surfing beach with cow's and baby calf's grazing a few metres away in front.

Decent enough hotel but carefully consider location
Staff on arrival was nice and the swimming pool is good.
The location is a bit double: it is a nice and quiet spot in Uluwatu area which meant it was perfect locationwise for me as a solo traveller who likes the quiet, and there is a beach with surf facilities close to the hotel (I don't understand why some people suggest it's far, you do have to go up and down quite a bit but I guess that happens when the hotel is on a cliff - do take that into account if you have injuries or other physical challenges though). However, the road to the hotel is not (yet, as of August 2026) very accessible. Google Maps tends to suggest otherwise but take a good half an hour into account to get to Uluwatu centre by Grab scooter, for example. My experience with Grab was that it was available in the late afternoon and early evening, but morning and early afternoon do not rely on Grab scooters and either make sure you have your own or book taxis in advance the night before to avoid stress - quite some of the drivers will just cancel when they see where it is without explanation.
This was the most expensive of the hotels where I stayed at on Bali, so I think I had just expected something reflecting that price. The room was not in a very good state and definitely not as nice as the photos suggest. Most importantly, the shower didn't have any warm water - I understood later the comfort rooms just don't offer that but I think that's a basic thing and have not had that in any of the other places I stayed at on Bali. The one night I wanted to eat at the hotel it took more than 1,5 hours for food to arrive even though I was told it would be 30-45 minutes; I ended up having to cancel the meal as I had wanted to go somewhere still and left on an empty stomach. Had I known in advance I would have eaten at one of the surrounding hotels or the pizza place around the corner.

Low end surfer stay in disrepair
Stayed 3 days to explore the Balangan area. Area is very remote with much traffic getting in and out. The sunset are good. Many surfers. That's about it. Too far from Uluwatu and Jimbaran beach. The resort mainly caters to long-term stay surfers and budget travelers. Had two rooms in three days, both had a sewer smell, both had noise issues, rundown and requires much maintenance. Makes me wonder if it's on the verge of a teardown. The beach is a long walk down a rocky driveway. The warungs and cafés are in total disrepair and unpleasant. The surfers af the resort admonish guests over simple 'noise" infractions according to their surf schedules and whims. This behavior is supported my management, hence making it simply a surfer place. Don't be fooled by the cheap price, spend some extra money on a better place.

Maintenance and plane spotting
Close to the beach great food building needs some maintenance. There were a lot of maintenance needed in our room. bathroom rof is glass and shower side is open. Pool is divine great place for plane spotting food is good I recommend pancakes. Staff were very friendly would make sure to lock items in safe like most people would do in any new country but overall 3 out of 5 stars

bad and rude
Terrible. Infinitely BAD. I'm 34 years old and I've never been treated as badly as I was at this hotel. In the first 10 minutes after checking in, the room key broke inside the lock. The receptionist almost hit us and started yelling in front of everyone, claiming that the key was new and that we would have to pay. She got angry, threw a vase of water on the reception desk and got everyone wet. I asked her name and asked for the manager to be called, but she kept yelling in Indonesian, no one understood anything. Completely unprepared to serve the public. I sent a message to the management on WhatsApp and I simply continued to be treated badly. I hope the owners of this establishment choose their employees better because that justifies the bad rating you have on Google. I've been in Bali for 1 month and I've never had problems like this. Terrible employees!
