Cosy
Beautifully maintained, two-storey double room in great hostel. Centrally located and thanks to roof terrace always a place to relax.

It looks nice....
From the photos the place looks cute, bright, clean and well maintained. Unfortunately, that is not the case. The alley to get there is full of garbage and bad smells, sometimes even people who use it for their own activities. There is a fixed smell of closed and damp as there are no windows that give outside, the rooms have windows that give the inner courtyard which is closed, the roof with windows lets in some light but you always need artificial lighting, however very poor in the rooms. Glazed roof that when it rains drips into the common room.
Breakfast is meager (it starts no earlier than 9.00) and should be done on very low tables in practice eat with your knees in your mouth.
In the beds there is no sheet upstairs.
On each floor there are about 16 beds with only 2 toilets and 3 showers, very few.
The terrace would be nice if it was maintained a little more.
With a few extra Euros there are many Riads much more comfortable and well-kept that allow you to stay in Essaouira.

The wind is howling again
I've been trapped in this place and I don't know how long it's been. I took shelter from the wind and they told me that it will slow down, but it has only gotten worse since I arrived. The owner doesn't talk and I think the cat is planning something. She's always around, pretending to sleep but I know she's siltenly observing us. The other travellers arrive shaken from the wind, the wind, always the wind and soon they become apathetic, slumped in a dark corner, their eyes glazed over.
I dreamt about leaving but when I woke up I was still here. Sometimes I wonder if I'm still sleeping.
Travellers leave but their luggage stays behind, tomorrow..

I found out why the cat never goes to the upper floors, tomorrow I will..
My companion fell Ill but where is he? I can hear him talking but I no longer see him.
I'm not mad, the ghosts, I don't see them but they see me. The wind, it's too much.

Beautiful, friendly hostel
Located in a magnificent, well-decorated riad, this hostel has welcoming staff and a warm, friendly atmosphere. It feels like home. At tea time, offered by the house, at the end of the afternoon, we have wonderful meetings with customers from all over the world. The included breakfast does not disappoint, the rooms and bathrooms are perfect and the terrace with a view of the ocean is a magical place for the sunset! In short, I highly recommend staying there.

Nadia, Abdel, Lily and Onion are the best!
I can't believe the Chill Art Hostel is only 2 star! Should be at least 4 for the hospitality alone. I've never really stayed in hostels, but as I was coming over alone, to tune into my surroundings and do some writing, I chose here, as the price is UNBELIEVABLE for a 1902 Rhiad in the heart of The Medina. True, you just get a stout, well made bunk bed in one of the spacious dormitories, with a little curtain for privacy, and it's own little spotlight and electric sockets, but the bedding is super clean and the beds really comfortable.
You'll be met at the check in desk by a very helpful tall guy named Abdel, or the manageress in a million! The ever smiling and enthusiastic Nadia! Both speak good English, French, obviously Arabic and maybe more. Nothing is too much trouble and they make great coffee and a communal breakfast.
If you're really lucky, you may be met by the two young American girls who help out here. They're called Lily and Onion! Great company, and a mine of information on where to go a d what to see in Essaouira and other places in Morocco.
I can't believe I've been here for three weeks for around £150! I'll definitely come again, in fact I'm planning my next visit already. 10/10 from me. Chris The Poet Dibnah. Bristol, UK. X
