An exceptional first experience
Excellent hotel and an exceptional restaurant. We had stayed 4 nights in total to and from Antsirabe. We were very well received. Internal access to the restaurant connecting the hotel to the restaurant via the wooden steps is original. A splendid setting in a residential and secure area of the capital. You can walk around without any problems.

Dated, but functional.
Situated across a bar on a cobblestone street, the doorman welcomes you with a smile.
The reception area is by the stairs, the small elevator is to the far right.
Breakfast is served on the ground floor.
The one bedded room we had on floor 3 was in the corner and had a bathtub as well as a shower. The nice balcony gave us a glimpse of the activity below.
There was a ceiling fan so we never turned on the air conditioner.
Two nice supermarkets were up the hill and to the right as well as banks with ATMs. When you exit the hotel, turn right, walk approx 20 meters and walk up the concrete steps (approx 4 -5 flights).
Military were stationed throughout the City. The 7 pm curfew contributed to the quiet in the evenings.
The reception area is by the stairs, the small elevator is to the far right.

Central location
In the diplomatic quarter. Simple small rooms, often power failure, all clean , friendly staff, nice restaurant.

efficient decay
We spent 2 days in this hotel logistically advantaged by a good location compared to the city center, appreciating its courtesy and efficiency of staff. Too bad that the structure of the common areas, the interior furnishings and the sanitary ware are dated (however functional). Available in the rooms (sufficiently spacious) both air conditioning, safe and TV. Breakfast area in the small hall, with just enough sweet breakfast and the savory limited to a good omelette.
Nearby restaurant (accessed by a long internal staircase) acceptable if you do not demand European food. Functional WiFi in both public areas and in the room. Access to the rooms is facilitated by a small external elevator, also outdated but perfectly functional.

Pulling around yes, flushing no...
Imagine you've just covered almost 9,000 kilometres. You have a travel day of over
18 hours. Because you have left narrow and dirty toilets on the plane and at the airports, there is only one thing you want to do when you arrive at your hotel: give your already dried-up kettle its freedom.
When it turns out that there is no water just that day, it is disappointing. You retract your brown companion and you don't shower for one night. Welcome to Africa!
When you arrive at the hotel, there are a dozen local vendors selling stuff you don't want your worst enemy or foe to sell. Once inside, you will be well helped at the reception and your heavy bag will be carried upstairs.
The room reminds me most of a living room in the Netherlands in the 70s. Madagascar loves wood. And the Owner loves folksy craft, if this term exists.
At the African Teleac he has completed a number of courses with or without success. First, the African clay course. The ashtray is picobello rounded and the mortar may also be there. Anyhow handy that if I suddenly feel like crushing nutmeg balls tonight, there is a mortar ready!
The second course was undoubtedly African painting! The exam paper is on the wall: a cross between van Gogh and Gaugain with an African twist.
The African braiding course is not going well yet, given the braided bamboo sticks for lighting. "Keep going," Barry Stevens would say.
Everything in this room works but you must first find and press the buttons, whether or not with an orange light. When you turn on the fridge, it looks like a swarm of bees is flying in. The fridge is as cold as Bridget Maasland and as stable as S10.
The bed is clean and is fine. There's an extra pillow in the closet.
When someone goes to the toilet on the floor above you, you have doubts about whether the elephant actually occurs in Madagascar.
I would like to pay special attention to the table lamp (see photo). Whether or not it's your taste, you wonder what happened to that hood. Has he been involved in a recent flood? Is it an heirloom of grandma who couldn't make it to the toilet for a while because of her dementia or is this hood the victim of a nighttime lovemaking with poor ejaculation projection! Actually, you don't even want to know!
What is definitely worth mentioning is that you can eat in the restaurant for a penny. The menu is extensive and the staff is very friendly. To get to the restaurant you turn right through the Rookhok and then 100 meters down the slope through a windy corridor, which has the smell of the garage of the family van de Akker from Spijkerhoek. Be careful not to be punctured by the mosquitoes before entering!
For a night of refueling after a hard travel day, this is a fine hotel. But with water from the shower head I would have given one more star.......
