We had a very pleasant stay overall. For a refurbished property, the room was impressively clean, spacious, and well-maintained. The views were beautiful too—whether facing the city or the sea, both offered a lovely backdrop to our stay.
The staff throughout the hotel were warm, helpful, and welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Their hospitality was genuinely appreciated.
We slept very well for most of our stay. However, on our final night, there were recurring loud sounds coming from the water piping system between approximately 1am and 3am. I’m not certain of the cause, but it was noticeable enough to disrupt our sleep. It may be worth having the piping checked.
The pool area was pleasant and enjoyable. One small suggestion would be to have staff make occasional rounds to monitor tidiness and safety around the pool. There were quite a few crows around during our visit, and they seemed rather interested in guests’ belongings left on the sunbeds.
Breakfast was another highlight—generous in variety and well-prepared. I would happily recommend it, especially for guests looking to avoid the more tourist-oriented prices around the Gurney Drive area while still enjoying a satisfying meal.
Overall, it was a great stay with excellent value, comfortable accommodations, and wonderful service. With a little attention to the unusual water piping noise, the experience would have been even better.

Unbeatable in Penang

Having stayed at many hotels within Penang and across Malaysia, Ascott GP is by far where we feel most comfortable. We have been staying at The Ascott frequently for the past 5 years, and never before have I seen a hotel stay so immaculate and maintained within that time frame.
The rooms are clean, the amenities are top notch, the hotel is quiet and the facilities are excellent. If you want somewhere that feels like home and allows you to rest, whilst being serviced by incredibly helpful and friendly staff, this is it.
We frequented the gym, yoga room and pool, and it was always a fantastic experience and kept super clean and nice. Every request we made to reception and housekeeping exceeded our expectations and we're delivered with a smile.
The Ascott GP is also a great for us, as it's walking distance to temples, the Pilau Tikus market and is well placed to take a Grab anywhere we like to visit. For all of this, nothing comes close on the island for value for money, either.
We are so incredibly appreciative to the whole team, including Vincent & Adeline for their exceptional service and friendliness during our stay.

Overall Pleasant Stay!

Nights Stayed: 4
Room Type: 2 bedroom premier club that connects to a Studio Delxue Twin Club
What we liked:
- Overall good location, there is a convenient store, coffee bean and a few other shops connected to the hotel.
- Clean, modern rooms
- There is a good gym (Techno gym equipment) and a ping pong table available for guest to use
- Relatively good views that looks out into the sea
- Breakfast spread was quite decent and at a good price point (we added on breakfast separately) - For the kids, there is a nutella dispenser machine that adds to the fun!
What can be improved:
- Our room was only ready at around 4pm + which is past the checkin time of 3pm
Do note!
- Traffic gets quite busy at peak hours along the route that the hotel is located at, so do account for that when planning your itinerary and leave buffers

Excellent stay at ascott gurney penang

Had a wonderful stay at Ascott Gurney Penang. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable with a great view. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was perfect for exploring Penang. Loved the facilities and overall experience. Highly recommended and would stay again!

Preferred Hotel in Gurney

Great location with friendly people and the breakfast was good.
Spacious rooms with complete bath amenities. Highly recommended for all travellers into Penang.
