A tranquil retreat
It would be impossible to find fault with our stay at Puerto del Ciel, a tranquil and relaxing haven situated alongside the idyllic waters of a freshwater lagoon.
The hotel is situated on the main road through Bacalar, which can seem a little underwhelming, but the main action in the town - with excellent bars and eateries - is just a five minute cab ride away.
Boasting just 14 beautifully-appointed rooms, there were a number of occasions during our four day stay where we felt we were the only guests, such was the peace and quiet we experienced.
Our rooms - both 'partial lagoon view' which meant that they looked out onto the water as well as the next door (and decidedly less picture book) hotel - were lovely. Comfortably air-conditioned and well-furnished, with an indoor bathroom/shower as well as an outdoor bath, which sadly we didn't take advantage of....
We ate in the hotel on one night - out under the stars on the terrace - and the food and service were excellent, a theme which carried on through each of our morning breakfasts (I can recommend the chilaquiles) and food and drink delivered by the pool. Staff in particular were unfailingly friendly and helpful.
Such is the tranquility of this place, it would be easy to laze your entire time away sitting on the terrance alongside the pool, but we did rouse ourselves to enjoy (amongst other things) a brilliant private sail-boat excursion around the lagoon, taking in the beautiful sunset along the way.

A true little paradise in Bacalar
Our stay at Puerta del Cielo was one of the highlights of our trip through Mexico.
The hotel is stunning, with breathtaking views over the Bacalar Lagoon. The atmosphere is peaceful and intimate, making it the perfect place to relax and disconnect.
Our room was beautiful, spacious and very comfortable, with everything we needed for a perfect stay. Waking up to the incredible colours of the lagoon was unforgettable.
The staff were attentive, friendly and always ready to help. We felt genuinely welcomed throughout our stay.
We also enjoyed the restaurant. The food was delicious, and having dinner overlooking the lagoon made the experience even more special. We particularly appreciated the quality of the dishes and the overall service.
If you’re looking for a quiet and elegant place to experience the beauty of Bacalar, Puerta del Cielo is an excellent choice. We would definitely return.

Very nice hotel, do not hesitate!
The room of this hotel is very beautiful, the bathroom is very large, and there is a very nice terrace with a bathtub and a hammock.
There are 2 nice pools, and in the evening, the pool area transforms into the restaurant :)
The hotel has a dock for direct access to the lagoon.
The hotel restaurant is excellent, and what a surprise when the chef comes to your table to cook the meat or fish in a salt crust!!
I had a very nice stay at this hotel, the staff was kind, I was well received, and the welcome drink was excellent by the way
And upon return, the vehicle offers us a bottle of water and coffee to take away!

Beautiful
Very nice hotel. The room we had for 3 days in early April was spacious, clean and had a great view of the lagoon. Breakfast is à la carte and extra room but it is very clearly worth it. It is hearty and excellent. Room service is a plus. Meals can all be served in the room or on the few tables available. We recommend the tacos that are the best we ate during our trip, a treat (we should have asked for the recipe )! The staff is helpful, attentive and professional. A bottle of water and a coffee to go were even offered to us upon our departure. I highly recommend this hotel which is a nugget by the lagoon. Thank you to the whole team for this stay.

The hotel is super cute and welcoming. The staff is wonderful and helpful at all times, always caring about our experience in the hotel. It was my birthday and they decorated our room and gave us a bottle of sparkling.
You cannot miss the private dinner experience. We had it on the bangalo, the food was amazing (order the catch of the day) and the vibes were immaculate. We will never forget that night!
We truly loved our experience in Bacalar! The lake is so amazing to swim and hotel is close to the city center!
