CARE bad experience and bad treatment

The hotel has too many stairs, no hot water, the sheets and pillows are plastic and dirty. But everything would have been bearable except the treatment given to us by SARAH the receptionist when another friend left his already paid room free for us to use and did NOT want to give it to us arguing that the room was not transferable however we had already paid for one night and were only receiving another gift from our friend. Sarah didn’t respect this and reluctantly informed us that it was “internal politics”. Policies that are NOT reflected anywhere and were not shown to us

It is a deception the rooms that show through the web nothing to do with what they offer the place is dirty and old, I had a very disappointing experience at the hotel. From the beginning, the service was poor. Something extreme and never happened to me before is that they let a stranger into our room that was supposed to be the suite the person got the wrong number oh I don't know but he came in and settled in while we were gone, the rooms were extremely old. The bathroom was in deplorable condition: the rusty shower and an unbearable smell of pipe made it almost impossible to use comfortably.
Which I found unacceptable for a place that's supposed to ensure the hygiene of its facilities, the AC doesn't work. You keep it at 16 and it doesn't cool, it just worked a light from the room. I would not recommend it for those looking for a pleasant and comfortable stay. We paid a full week and had to leave on the third day. We only came back one night for our stuff

It's a solid 2.5 to 3 star

Honestly after reading the most recent reviews I was terrified to get here. However when I arrived it became very clear that most were ripping on it because ... Well no it's not a 4 or a 5 star hotel, but it is exactly what you should be expecting from a hostel/hotel, it's a solid 2.5 maybe 3 and that does not mean it's bad.
But here is the break down:
Hotel Grounds
- At first it throws you off it looks old and built into the mountain through the trees but after a bit you realize its also the appeal. It's a hipster's Paradise there's actually a lot there two pools, I will judge them here a little. My first day in the first pool was absolutely green with algae. They have a cool wellness/ yoga studio that overlooks the water. Biggest downfall even though again it's kind of part of it. Is the amount of stairs you have to go up to get to the hotel rooms. Even if they do have hotel rooms at the bottom I wouldn't go to them because it gets very loud at night with all the live entertainment and music.
Staff
I'll start with the pros. The bartenders they are very nice and come up with some great drinks. However, reviews are right. Reception needs a little work. We got there early asked if it's possible to check in early they didn't even work. Just kept repeating 3 pm, had a very angry look on their faces when we got back around 2:45 asking if the room was ready.
Room
We got lucky here, room is outdated but it was huge overlooked the ocean with an incredible view. Again, it was a hike to get to the room, it was worth it for the view. Remember for a 2.5 to a 3 star is this normal. We did see some of the other rooms just by coincidence and they were smaller so just be aware of what you are reserving.

Nice bed, nice view - but we had rats in the room!

Let's start with the good. We had a great view and a lovely bed in their unique room.
From there there is not much better to tell. We had rats in the room, which we discovered before our last night. My hair rises at the tank... they offered to give us another room, but since it would just be a downgrade to something smaller - or a neighboring room, where the rats could also enter - we stayed in the room one more night, because now we had managed the other nights, without the rats had done us anything.
Much of the staff seems unresponsive...
Their trips are more expensive than what you can find elsewhere.

Terrible experience

We had a terrible experience at Selena. Had 4 rooms reserved and they could only find one in their system. We had to hassle for 2 hours to finally get some partial resolution *for one night* out of the four we had reserved. Their take was “we’ll refund you for the other rooms” while declining to assist us in any other way. Front desk staff is powerless to do anything and higher management would not speak with us because they were “off shift” and not on premises.
In the end they did accommodate us as expected, after a full day of uncertainty as to whether we were going to be able to stay or not. For new years week this would have meant having to go somewhere else, wrecking our entire plans.
We were declined breakfast two days (supposed to be included) because the kitchen was closed.
Everything else was as expected for a hostal hotel.
The hotel is built on a hillside, so getting to your room most likely means climbjng hundreds of steps. No staff to help you bring your luggage to your room.
If you are open to a 50/50 chance that things will go as expected, definitely give this place a chance. I will never recommend Selina to anyone.
