Staying near the sea and the fifth

The location is super cool, everything is very nice, near the sea and the famous Fifth Avenue.

Really great value for location, but the noise could bother some people.

The rooms are very basic, but have everything you need. Each one has a balcony which is great and there's a big terrace overlooking the street. It's perfectly located in the center and very near the main bus station. Staff was friendly, and the price is amazing. The only downside was the noise across the street at the karaoke bars. I slept great because I was jet lagged, but if you are sensitive to noise this would be an issue.

Great location

My friend and I stayed at this hotel for the weekend, and I most say the location is amazing. You are so close to everything on 5th ave.
The hotel... The hotel was clean and the staff was very nice. The hotel is next to a karaoke bar so at night you will hear them singing but it didnt bother me. If you are a light sleeper maybe you can bring some ear plugs.
What I didnt like about this hotel was 1 the room door it felt like someone is coming in your room at night the door is not secure.. 2 the shower door needs to be repaired everytime you took a shower the water came out causing a flood and they didnt want to give a floor mat. 3 the bed frame needs to be cleaned it had so much dirt and dust. The walls need to be repainted or cleaned..4 they need better mattresses, you get up with back pain.
In all I enjoyed staying at this hotel just for a weekend because of the location but if you want somewhere for a week to relax in your room I would not recommend this place.

Friendly economical place to stay.

I spent seven days at Playa del Carmen and spent the entire time at the Hotel de Mar. This hotel is located steps from 5th avenue, which is the main pedestrian street on Playa del Carmen. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic, clean and most important for me was bug free. Again, this is for travelers looking for just the basics because they plan to spend the majority of their time out at the beach and restaurants. There is one warning. This hotel is located a few meters from several clubs/bars that stay open very late. You will hear noise from these bars inside your hotel room up to 5am in the morning almost every night. If you are a light sleeper or easily disturbed by noisy atmosphere at night, than this hotel is definitely not for you. All in all, I like the hotel. It is not my favorite but it served well as an economical way to stay near all the action.
