Wonderful Place
Spent three and a half months there after being kicked out of my apartment due to the earthquake. It was home until I found a new apartment. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. The person who really makes this place special is the owner Alfonso. He goes out his way to help people from simple tourist questions, places to eat, taxis, you name it. They have a very good breakfast dining room. If you are a Marriott, Four Seasons, W type of person, this place is not for you. If you want to feel like you are in a home type of environment with a caring owner, this is a great place to stay and at a reasonable rate.

Good location, that’s about it
I think this has gone down hill in recent years.
We didn’t want to book just another hotel. Therefore we booked Anys hostal because of the great reviews and the seemingly friendly hospitality. Well don’t bother. This was way below our expectations.
Yes we checked in late (10pm) as our flight came in late, so upon check in it was very basic formalities. No info about the accommodation or the area. But even after that we did not see anyone at the front desk. Our room did not lock at all. The snib would slip down and so we had to use toilet paper to hold it in. We couldn’t even tell anyone as there was no one around.
Yes it’s basic, but ridiculously so. Not even extra toilet paper in the bathroom. One tiny piece of soap and extremely small towels. Water pressure was terrible and long black hair just above the shower head.
No information in the room. Even just a piece of paper with an intro to the area and some local recommendations would have been good.
Not sure why this place gets good reviews. It is falling apart, not maintained…the hospitality doesn’t make up for it, because there is zero.
The bathroom has moudly smell. The sink hole does not have a cover over it so I lost a makeup lid down there never to be seen again.
I have stayed at many other basic hostels and hotels and this amongst the worst.
Water container was replaced once finished.
This place seems to have fallen to disrepair.

Good basis for exploring the Chapultepec and Zona Rosa
The hostal is located in a nice neighbourhood, great for exploring the Chapultepec area, the Zona Rosa. Close to metro. The owner is very pleasant and cares about guests, he provided a map, a metro map and was happy to give more info.
I could hear the guests in the next room all too well. The room was a bit tired. A TV would be nice. This was the only place I stayed in Mexico where no shampoo was provided (obviously also no blow-drier). Breakfast was nothing special, I was not even tempted for the seconds.

Lovely family run Hostal in the heart of Mexico City
This super and modestly-priced Hostal entirely exceeded expectations. It is situated in a relatively quiet tree-lined street in easy walking distance from lots of attractions, such as the Chapultepec park with its various museums. The owner, Alfonso, is fantastically helpful with advice on how to get around, things to do, places to eat etc, and he also speaks very good English. The hotel has a nice little cafe attached where breakfast is served. I stayed there for two weeks, first for a conference and then joined by my son for some sight seeing. We felt very safe and hugely enjoyed ourselves. I definitely want to return there with my wife.

Fantastic
Just the most perfect introduction to Mexico City. Amazing value and absolutely wonderfully friendly staff, including the owner Alfonso who is perhaps the nicest hotel owner we've met in nearly one year of travel! Lovely large room, great breakfast and great location! Highly recommended.
