Staff very helpful with fixing problems

We used this as a base for exploring Inle Lake and it was very conveniently located near the jetty. We paid extra for a bath but couldn't use it the first night as the water was cold. It was still cold in the morning so we mentioned it to staff who said they'd turn it on. We were still having problems after that but it turned out that you had to run all they taps for several minutes before it warmed up. WiFi was a bit hot and miss too. Breakfast was vey good with pancakes and eggs freshly cooked and fresh fruit. We left on an evening bus and were given the use of the room until late afternoon which we appreciated. One little niggle when the room was cleaned was that all our stuff got rearranged which I really don't like. Overall I would recommend the hotel.

Not Recommended!

We have been traveling for 7 months in S. E. A. This is the first time I have written a negative review.
We were at the Sandalwood for three days. Good point: They let us in our room at 5 a.m. as we had arrived on the night bus. Since we were tired I asked for breakfast and agreed to pay as it was not covered that morning as check-in was at 2 p.m.
Negative points:
1.) Not once did the wifi work even a little.
2.) To get warm water you had to run the tap for almost five minutes which is a real waste of water. The weather was cold otherwise I would not have cared.
3.) On our second day the electricity went off. We work online so it was a work day and necessary to keep our computers charged. I went down the street to a local restaurant who had their generator on. There is a massive generator at Sandalwood but the owner made excuses about turning it on. We were paying $26 per night,which is reasonable to expect electricity. I say this because four other hotels in same price range had their generators on and had electricity available for customers. I was looking to move hotels at this point. Now sandalwood owner turns generator on!
4.) No internet on any of our stay. No electricity for two days except in eve. Then they give me the bill when we check out for the one morning we had breakfast and charged $6 for 2 people. Breakfast was a banana, juice, toast and eggs!
I politely asked if we could get some kind of compensation for lack of internet or electricity and was rebuffed by owner.
No one has been rude to us in Myanmar until this lady owner/manager.

No wifi

Let's start with the things that are good about the place. The staff are very kind and friendly. We arrived at 4:30 am and we were given a room . Check in time was not into 12 noon. The room was nice and bed comfortable. I work online and and I pick hotels based upon supposed wifi service. We stayed 3 nights and wifi in our room did not work at all. It was non-existent. I always carry a portable wifi with me and was able to work but there is no compensation for the amount I had to spend on mobile data. While trying to work the electricity went out. The whole town was out but even though the hotel has a sizable generator, basically I was just told there was nothing that could be done. The electricity went out another day but I was leaving so, it was fine. It was still off when we checked out. The first day at check-in we ate breakfast. This breakfast was not included with the room. But two of the three days I was there I did not eat breakfast because I was working. At checkout we were charged 10,000 mmk for breakfast. While this was technically a valid charge, I feel, due to lack of internet, electricity and the fact I didn't eat breakfast on other days that some concession could have been made. Knowing what I know now I would not return to Sandalwood.

Comfortable stay

I stayed at Sandalwood for 5 nights and used it as a base from which to explore Inle Lake and the surrounding area.
It’s in a very convenient location for boat trips to Inle Lake, less than a minute’s walking distance away. There’s also an ATM on the corner of the street and plenty of cafes and restaurants within walking distance. I found the whole town to be walkable and bikes are also available for hire nearby.
The room was clean and comfortable - the bed especially.
The breakfast is plentiful - fruit, toast, eggs, and sometimes a local Myanmar side dish too.
It is Myanmar and not a major city, so hot water is wishful thinking. I managed to get hot water once during my stay - which made it all the sweeter!

Where2Stay in Nyaungshwe - Worth the stay and will return again

Here's my two cents of my experience with Sandalwood Hotel:-
About the hotel
1. I noted that I will be arriving early and I really appreciate the early check-in and the room is ready!
2. All the staff are friendly, kind and helpful which make my stay very pleasant. Though most of them I would need to use sign language (as they have limited understanding of English), I believe they have trying their best to help. There is once the manager used her own hotspot as the WiFi signal is weak (it is a norm at certain timing in Myanmar) to help the travellers to book their airline ticket, kudos!
3. The breakfast is healthy, delicious and should able keep you full until lunch time.
4. My room is spacious!
5. They also provided me welcoming drink, in the hot afternoon after "officially" check-in.
6. Attentive hotel manager and assist us to book for boat trip and trip to Taunggyi.
7. As with the name "hotel", most people will tend to have a bit of higher expectation. If they drop the "hotel" and change to "guest house", the rating might be higher. Anyhow, they only have about 27 rooms.
Area of improvement:-
1. I need to wait about 5 minutes before the hot water supply reach my room and it is kind of waste of water as it flow into drain for such long. This is an area they really need to look into.
2. I would really encourage the staff to receive some language training.
3. Electric kettle or thermos would be really helpful.
4. Invest in maybe 2 washing machine and 2 dryers perhaps.
Hotel location and surrounding
1. This is what makes this hotel worth the value to stay.
2. Located near the river, ~ 2 minutes walking
3. Located near to restaurants, ~ 1 minutes walking
4. Near to a temple, ~ 2 minutes walking
5. Near to night market, ~ 4 minutes walking
6. In short, really good area!
