Good place for a one night stopover

Quite a good hotel, the room was newly renovated and clean. There was no fridge in the room, but there was one in the hallway. The breakfast had a pretty good selection to start the day. The hotel is in a good location right on the main road, so the hotel is well suited for a one-night stopover.

Good food.

Eaten finnbiff and the food was good! And not so crazy price. I would recommend to stop at this place. Wish them luck in the operation and I will be happy to return

Real happiness

Very pleasant and warm stay.
Having arrived at night under a busy sky we did not know what we would wake up to.
What a wonder!
It felt like home.
The owners were always in care
They warned us in the morning that we would see the Northern Lights and they were there to show us.
The brazier was lit and benches covered with reindeer skins were available
The tepee was heating up
Enough to choose the most comfortable for us.
The hotel is comfortable and delicious meals
One night we were the only ones at the restaurant and the cook came to present us what he could cook us up
That was really nice.
The sauna was great.
What a joy to live this kind of experiences

Cozy accommodation above the Arctic Circle

The Sami owners of Skibotn Hotel have put their heart and soul into making it a special place. We stayed there three nights and it was the perfect place for us. We went out hiking and exploring every day, and it was such a pleasure to come back to a warm, comfy home base. They provide a lovely breakfast buffet (included!) with hot and cold items, there is a cozy den for reading or relaxing, comfortable bed and hot shower; they have a restaurant for an evening meal (on request they made us delicious vegetarian pizza), and most evenings a fire is going in the lobby. The owners were usually “around” (we saw them every day) in case we had any questions or were looking for suggestions on things to do. I honestly felt as if we were returning to a home away from home. Can’t thank them enough for all the work that it must take to provide this comfortable accommodation above the Arctic Circle.

Retro-living - back to the 80s!

Hotel website and photos can show us a different world. Skibotn hotel is a pretty worn-down and retro-feel hotel in a small Norwegian village. Landscapes around the hotel are wonderful and the pricing ok but the stay wasn't that welcoming. Would I go again? Probably no.
First question upon arrival. Where is the reception? There are no signs showing where the reception is. There is a cafe and a restaurant. No signs of reception (in the hall a sign with an arrow would be nice). Well, it is in the restaurant where bar staff check you in. A younger male welcomed us with no interest or smile. No words needed, just toss the key on the table after you've paid. Once in the room, I saw bed sheets and blankets lying around and towels on the bathroom floor. Got a room that hadn't been cleaned after previous guests. Back to the reception!
The same male didn't seem to be sorry. Just said that he asked for which kind of beds would I like on the first go. Wait, what? When I said that it didn't matter - a dirty room was the best option? He went to check the next possibility (now I was wondering what was going on). Another male staff member came by and was more helpful. I guess he would've been more friendly in the beginning. Got the new key and was wondering if there would be clean room this time. It was. The view though was to the "wrong" side facing a couple of trees. Reason was that it's so warm that the seaside view would be too hot. Maybe ask the guests next time if they'd like a nice view keeping in mind that the room might be hot? Would've definitely preferred a room with a view.
The room is not like in the photos on the hotel web site. Maybe there are some renovated rooms for better customers. The air felt very moist and I guess it would've been the same problem with every room (a view to the sea would've been nice). There are pieces on the window missing (didn't want to open it as I was afraid it would fall down). Beds are good enough (however there are no sheets for a double-bed - two regular-sized sheets had been used). The bathroom is renovated and nice (even though the air doesn't move and the room keeps wet throughout the visit). The bathroom door doent' close properly. A screw is missing on the bathroom door. There is some garbage behind the toilet seat.
A fridge is a nice addition even though it's loud and somewhat dirty. It froze the water bottles during night so got some nice cold drinks for the hike on Finnish side of the border. The room echoes and smell a bit old (guess it's the moisture in the air). There is no lamp on the ceiling (luckily it's summer and it's quite light all day even on this side of the hotel). There are the remains of a smoke detector but no battery or cover to be seen (I guess this wouldn't go through inspections on the other side of the border). The sockets are old but there are enough of those.
Talking about security of the place. Exit signs have lost their covers and are just random bases for lamps. Aren't these a must in Norway? Didn't see any exit signs anywhere. There is a carpet cleaner machine on the hallway (in plain sight, not hidden somewhere) plus the washing liquid and a random water kettle next to the cleaner. The carpet has seen better days but I don't mind that. There are also some old restaurant buffet trolleys on the first floor hallway. Why? You can also adjust the heating and probably some other electronic things of the whole building as the control board is just there without any covers on the hallway.
Breakfast was basic but nice! I didn't expect anything spectacular from a small-town hotel. The lady at the breakfast was very friendly. The breakfast was definitely the best part of the stay - a good variety of cold juices and yoghurts, some granola, bread and variety of spreads and cold cuts. Great!
Majority of the cons I saw would be easy to fix. A screw on the door - covers on the exit signs - fixing the smoke detectors - getting rid of old restaurant equipment just lying around - adding a sign to show the way to the reception... Staff is the first part that you see at the hotel and definitely there was a lot to improve. Felt like a motel experience, not a hotel. The price was reasonable though and the location was nice for an evening walk. Sadly I'll probably pay 50 euros more and stay in Kilpisjärvi, Finland next time I need to find a place to stay around here.
