AVOID AT ALL COST
This stay was intended to be the grand finale of my wife’s 60th birthday trip to South Africa. After spending a significant amount of money, I chose the Dysart Hotel because of its reputation as a luxury boutique hotel. I wanted the trip to end on a high. Instead, it became the biggest disappointment of the entire holiday.
Almost immediately after checking in, we encountered one problem after another. There was no hot water, televisions weren’t working, lights were broken, bathroom doors didn’t close properly, the bathroom offered virtually no privacy, breakfast was poor, and even the crockery was chipped. For a hotel charging luxury prices, the standard was simply unacceptable.
The situation deteriorated to the point where we made the decision to leave after just one night. Walking away from accommodation that has cost you thousands is not something anyone does lightly, but we had completely lost confidence in the hotel.
What has disappointed me even more is what happened afterwards. Rather than acknowledging our concerns or attempting to put things right, the hotel has chosen to ignore us entirely. A polite and detailed complaint was sent, giving them every opportunity to respond privately before anything was posted publicly. They have not even had the courtesy to acknowledge it.
What should have been one of the highlights of my wife’s milestone birthday instead became one of the most disappointing experiences of the entire trip. Thankfully, the rest of our holiday was wonderful, but this hotel came very close to overshadowing it.
Luxury is about far more than stylish photographs on a website. It is about delivering the experience guests have paid for and taking responsibility when things go wrong. In our experience, the Dysart Hotel failed on both counts.
I sincerely hope the management decides to improve both the condition of the hotel and the way they treat their guests. Until then, I cannot recommend anyone spend their hard-earned money here.

Absolute scam. Change their rates depending on who’s coming.
We booked the Dysart Hotel expecting a luxury experience and paid approximately £1,600 for our stay. Unfortunately, the reality was completely different.
Within a very short period of arriving, we identified numerous issues throughout the property and our room, including:
* Bathroom doors that would not close properly.
* Broken lights and lamps.
* A bathroom design that offered virtually no toilet privacy due to being overlooked.
* No hot water.
* Televisions that did not work.
* Poor-quality breakfast that fell well below expectations for a hotel of this standard.
* Chipped and broken crockery being used for guests.
* Milk being served in a plastic bottle, which simply added to the feeling that attention to detail was lacking throughout.
The number of defects and maintenance issues meant we completely lost confidence in the hotel. We made the difficult decision to leave after just one night. Nobody abandons an expensive holiday accommodation unless something is seriously wrong.
We raised all of these concerns with the hotel manager while we were there. The issues were acknowledged, yet no meaningful attempt was made to rectify them or recover our experience. That was disappointing enough.
What has happened since has been even worse.
After returning home, I wrote a detailed, polite complaint to the hotel, giving both the manager and owner every opportunity to respond before leaving a public review. They have simply ignored me. No acknowledgement, no apology, and no response whatsoever. That level of customer service is unacceptable.
To make matters worse, whilst we were staying there I found the same room, dates and occupancy advertised for approximately £1,277 on Booking.com—around £323 less than we had paid.
I have photographs and videos documenting the issues we encountered, so this review is based entirely on our genuine experience.
Luxury hotels are judged not only on their facilities but also on how they respond when things go wrong. Sadly, the Dysart Hotel failed on both counts.
I cannot recommend this hotel and would strongly encourage prospective guests to consider alternative accommodation where both the quality of the stay and the customer service are taken seriously. Ultimately, it’s a scam. I’d have been satisfied if we’d paid £300, not £1690!!

nice stay
The room was quite big, with a coffee machine and a nice shower. The only problem was that the shower was leaking, and after we took a shower, there was water on the floor, which also got to the room area. We were given extra towels.
The breakfast was good, with a nice buffet and also hot dishes.
We really liked the vibe of this place - it feels so quiet and relaxed, but you are still in the centre.
