Nostalgia...

Fort Sesfontein exudes its own charm. From the outside, the fort retains the character of a fortification, but the courtyard radiates more the tranquility of a monastery courtyard. The spacious and very simply furnished rooms are indeed clean, but a renovation has long been overdue. The worn-out mosquito nets could, for example, be repaired, as the mosquitoes seem to find their way to the bed but not back out. Ants in the bed are also not to everyone's liking. The food was very good, but we found it strange that a gin and tonic is only available in the presence of the manager. The staff was very attentive. Since Sesfontein is suitable for a day trip to Puros or the Hoanib Valley, we visited Sesfontein for the third time, this time staying at the fort for the second time.

A fort in the desert

Charming accommodation in Damaraland beautiful and spacious rooms large shaded courtyard and beautiful pool. All very courteous : punctual washing of clothes , they made us find the cars clean , nice ride with the guide in search of desert elephants. ( found ) Catering sufficient considering where we are

Place in an exceptional site

Place full of charm and full of history, located in a small oasis. Ideal for relaxing with its large pool.
The reception needs to be redone but its outdated side has a certain charm!
On the other hand the rooms are impeccable with all the necessary comfort.
I recommend this hotel.

A very special and relax place to stay.

It's my second time staying at Fort Sesfontein (August 2018 and now August 2024). We specially came to see the Hoanib Elephant, and thanks Willi we found and could observe them with their 10 days old baby for a very long time. As I am Gluten-Intolerant your cook did his best, thank you for that.
Unfortunately there were no more singing group after dinner, that was so much entertainment in 2018.
Beside this everything was neat and clean.
And thank you to the guy who washed my sandy-salted car.

A historic place

This was the third time we have been guests at this historic fort and, as before, we were positively impressed by our stay. Compared to our previous stays, the care and attention of the staff to the guests has improved even more. They asked about your wishes and made you feel comfortable. The large pool, where you can relax wonderfully, is a positive, as is the beautiful historic courtyard with tables and benches under the mighty palm trees. A true oasis in this dry area. When we were there, the Huanib River was draining and so the trip through the river and to the desert elephants was questionable. We tried it, the guide took a huge detour over stony rubble and bad rocky paths, which we then used to get to the river. The water flowed, the driver drove 100 m in one direction, 100 m in another direction, no way through, no elephants. Then back the same way over rock and stone. It would have been more honest to tell the guest that there was no way through at the moment and to forgo the trip. Especially since the vehicle must have seen better days and the guest is now very uncomfortable to drive. Since we have already done the trip twice, we can say that the trip through the river was far more pleasant than over the rocky rocks. Yes, nature is what it is. On the last evening in the fort, after dinner, we were rewarded with a serenade from the staff. The farewell songs gave us a lot of joy. We felt at home.
