Wonderful getaway - anytime of year!
Suggest you go with the private onsen option as it was a wonderful and pleasurable experience. All up, one of the best quick getaway we have ever had!

Just a bath.
The bath is good with only the source.
The rooms were cleaned up, the building was cleaned up, the staff responded normally, and I bowed my head when I passed them, so I had no complaints.
I'm not happy with my diet.
Considering the price, I guess.
Cold fried chicken, sashimi that doesn't taste good, cold, chewy tempura, mapo tofu with a stinky minced meat, and hachihakana with a strong flavor.
The usual dishes were fried rice, motsuni, and chawanmushi.
And by the way, I made it the second half of the two-part system.
Even if the chawanmushi runs out half an hour before the end, there's no more to add?
And they start to clean up the tongs and a few of them are like, "What about the tongs?" What's with all these ingredients? I asked the staff about it.

Considering the cost of accommodation, are you patient?
I thought it would be nice to pay for all-you-can-drink to raise the level of ingredients.
I had a nice lunch in the matobutake field (crunchy Maitake tempura) and I wasn't angry.
They say it's good cost performance.

A highland hotel in the middle of the forest. I was able to enjoy nature to the fullest.
The surroundings are more like a forest plateau than a hot spring town. I could constantly hear the cries of small birds such as nightingales, cuckoos, and lesser cuckoos, and cicadas. When I checked in, none of the three men at the front desk were wearing masks. Formerly "Kanpo no Yado". The hotel has a very clean atmosphere. There are handrails in all the corridors and in the guest room toilets, so it feels barrier-free. When I checked in around 2:10 p.m. on the first day, the karaoke (2 places) was fully booked that day. The reception starts at 12:30. No reservation is required for table tennis. The food was the usual Itoen Hotel food. It was just as delicious as usual. The venue was small and breakfast was served from 7:00 to 9:00, so it was extremely crowded around 7:00. There is a large public bath, an open-air bath, and a sauna (+ cold bath). It is said that the water is directly from the source. I was recommended to use the private bath when I checked in. It was a little inconvenient that there was only one elevator in the building.
To get around Kusatsu, there is a free shuttle bus to the town center (bus terminal) that runs once an hour from 9:00 to 19:00. It takes just under 10 minutes one way.
29,640 yen for 2 people for 2 nights. It's also good value for money.
