Traditional Japanese Accomodation - Friendly & Welcoming

Just recently checked out of Hotel Taizan after spending 9 nights in an inter connecting room. 1 room with 2 western beds, adjoining traditional japanese tatami room and private bathroom with shower. Ample space and storage for our group of 4 with a communal lounge area to socialise. Yes....its dated...but it simply has character, is very comfortable and clean, and is centrally located in the main street. Our hosts, Angel, Katsu and Justine, could not have been more accomodating. From providing very
personalised breakfasts, to picking us up
from the station after missing the last
bus, to providing discounted lift tickets. If
you are coming to Myoko Kogen, stay at
Hotel Kogen Taizan! A lovely family run
hotel, who go out of their way to add
those special touches you rarely get at
Western style accomodation. Thanks guys for a memorable holiday.

Super Friendly

I enjoyed staying here, the staff are super friendly and helpful especially if you make an effort to speak a bit of Japanese. It's in a great spot halfway up the street, with a great lounge area to relax after a day on the hill. One thing to keep in mind is that most of the buildings in Myoko were built in the 80s and haven't really been upgraded since, though still clean and tidy.

Fantastic family and friend holiday

We just spent 6 days here with 31 of our friends ranging in ages from 8 years of age to 50.... and had an absolute ball. The staff couldn't be kinder. It was wonderful to have Jacob to help solve any language barrier issues and he and the rest of the amazing staff were always eager to help us. Such a great location, with comfortable rooms, heavenly views and an onsen to help ease the aches and pains from skiing and boarding. We all agreed we would stay here again.

Great staff and location let down by terrible rooms

The staff couldn't be more friendly and the location is as good as it gets in Myoko. The rooms on the other hand were something else. The cleanliness of the room was terrible, topped off with stained bed sheets. There was no where to put a suite case. They did give us the use of another room next door to put our suite cases in. There was a small cupboard for cloths however this leaked water from somewhere and permanently stained my favourite puffer jacket. The room was so small, to move around one person had to stand in between the two beds for the other to pass by. Our ensuite leaked water all over the floor when a tape was used in both the basin and shower. The beds are the most uncomfortable I can ever remember sleepin on. Speaking to other guests we heard several other horror stories all along similar lines. I did not have very high expectations for this hotel as we booked late and didn't have much to choose from paying $200 p/night for this. If the room rate was $70-$80 p/ night I would understand but to be paying around $200 is a rort. The breakfasts are adequate although they cook the food then serve it luke warm or cold.
I do think they have some better rooms which can be seen on there web site however there are many low quality rooms which they don't advertise until you arrive which does dampen the holiday experience somewhat.

Great hospitality and location!

We stayed here in Feb for 5 nights, and found the Hotel a little" tired" but was more than made up by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. This is a family business so the staff were very caring and helpful, and made restaurant bookings for us. The location is ideal as it is in the main street and a few minutes walk to restaurants and bars. There is a great onsen in the Hotel which was ideal after a day's skiing. We will definitely return to this Hotel.!
