Beyond 30 years

I came on the last day of the Bon festival.
This venerable ryokan I've always wanted to visit.
And actually, there was another reason.
I wasn't sure yet at this point…
A venerable ryokan from the mid-Edo period, the ryokan was closed due to the Great East Japan Earthquake and was revived as a ryokan for rent over the course of 12 years.
When I got to the parking lot, the landlady rushed to me.
I was taught how to lock the door, and when I entered the door, I was enveloped in the scent of cypress and my family said "good scent" without thinking.
Deck, bed and room wrapped in cypress on the floor.
Careful furniture, mattresses, lighting, shampoo, and oak laminated bedheads and window frames.
They explained the room carefully.
Because of the low season, we didn't do many shops around, so we left to shop immediately.
Back there, I dived into the only incense grove hot spring left undismantled, which I was looking forward to immediately, and bathed in the fresh-spring stream flowing from Edo.
I came out of the bath and had a good time on the terrace.
I enjoyed this just before I left.
The family, who had lavishly monopolized the fresh-from-the-source hot springs, did not want to return.
At the time of check-out, the landlady and her mother came to see us off, and we saw them off.
It was a good summer vacation that I will never forget, as it was very relaxing both physically and mentally.
I actually met my landlady 30 years ago when she was working in her previous job.
One day
I'm going home to take over the family business.
I got a puff and a letter.
I'll go when I'm landlady!
And then a few decades later…
As I was sorting things out during the pandemic, a pamphlet by Kounkaku and a letter from the landlady appeared.
I thought I might have become a landlady and searched for it, but it was gone due to the Great East Japan Earthquake and I gave up, but I decided to visit it after learning it had been revived online last year.
I was very happy that the promise had been fulfilled over 30 years, and that the landlady and her mother, who had worked so hard, had been restarted in a new form while inheriting the freshly sourced hot springs flowing from Edo.
I definitely want to visit this inn again.
