Shukubo Komadori-Sanso

Amazing stay at top
Amazing hidden gem to stay at Top Mt. Mitake.
Got room with valley view, something amazing.
They have a coffee machine at reception which is worthwhile if you want to sit quietly.
Had amazing authentic Japanese dinner. I am a vegetarian and they took care of all dietary restrictions.
They also offer for hot bath which needs to be booked in advance. Shower can be used anytime.
Night walk after dinner is amazing as everything is so quiet.
I did rock garden hike early in the morning. It was so calming as there were no visitors at all. Seems like all jungle to myself. Visited shrine in the morning, it was so beautiful without much people around.
Host lady was charming as she gave some amazing tips for the hike. She gave me sweet lemon slices since I had to leave before breakfast due to Tama river rafting which was also a great experience.
There is lot of rush over the weekend so it was worthwhile to stay at top so you can enjoy early morning hike and walk to Shrine without many visitors around. You will see visitors coming at first cable car which starts at 7:30am.
Will surely visit again. :-)

A hidden gem worth the trip for natural lovers
This place is truly a charming family inn with so much soul and history. The husband has been in this village for 18 generations, which you can really feel in the experience.
What I love most about this escape is that the journey to get there is just as magical as the destination. You take a cable car, wander through a small town on foot, and once you arrive it’s incredibly peaceful, you can hear the birds. It’s also really easy to access hiking trails, whether you want something shorter or longer with waterfalls, moss-covered rocks, and shrines.
We stayed for two nights and had both dinner and breakfast each day because it was so lovely. Dinner is a multi-course meal with small seasonal bites, and everything was delicious. For breakfast, you can choose either Japanese or Western style.
The tub was such a nice surprise. I didn’t even realize that with each night you get an hour in a private onsen in their huge historic oak tub. It was incredibly relaxing before bed, especially since we visited in early spring when it was still a bit chilly.
All in all, I will definitely be back. This was one of my favorite parts of my Japan trip.

Whether you come to Mitakesan to get close to nature, or God, this place is a great place for a stay. Ideally located right next to the ascent for shrine and all nearby hiking. Ms Akemi and family took great care of us. The food was delicious and thoughtfully prepared for vegetarians. Lodging amenities were nice and in line with traditional ryokan style. Onsen after a long day of hiking melts the pain away. They also arranged for an early morning ritual at shrine for us. The waterfall ceremony was not available though. Waterfalls themselves are easily accessible with a short but strenuous hike.
We flew into HND, and managed to do the Shinjuku bus/JR train/shuttle bus/cablecar journey to reach this place without any issues. So don’t be intimidated by the number of transfers. Having less luggage will definitely help. Use hyperdia site to plan travel (although that site doesn’t show the bus to shinjuku option - we used it to save one transfer).
The place a bit of a hike from Mt Mitakesan train station, so having backpacks only would work best. The pathway is not friendly for rolling luggage.

Absolutely wonderful!!
The room was so spacious, everything is immaculate and the food is divine. The hot tub was fabulous as well as the delightful hostess - she is a real sweetheart. Well worth the effort to get there from Tokyo, but very doable. Perfect place to relax or stretch your legs and go hiking.
