Extraordinary

A magical experience. Extremely beautiful and calm hotel & location. I genuinely thought the woodland birds were a soundtrack. This was a 2 night «downtime» between large cities for us and was perfect. Strolling through tiny parks and admiring the agriculture was what we needed. Shuttles can take you to Toya for cafes, shops etc. Shoutout to the maitre de who was v professional but the Executive Chef, Mr Ohashi was the star. We went half board (advised, there’s not much else within walking distance), the meals were wonderful and Mr Ohashi made our stay feel v special. It’s remote but doable by public bus and train with effort. Strongly recommended although personally I’d not take children there. Too quiet, too calm and v little for them to do.

"Too expensive for the service received"

The WE Hotel Lake Toya enjoys a remarkable location, with a breathtaking view of the lake that alone is worth the trip. Unfortunately, that was about the only aspect of our stay that lived up to the upscale positioning the hotel claims for itself.
From check-in, we were surprised by the complete absence of any welcoming gesture — no refreshing drink, no cool towel, despite the day's heat and the fact that this is customary at this type of establishment in Japan.
Having booked dinner, with a menu priced at ¥11,000 — already a substantial rate for Japan — we expected service to match. The bottle of white wine we ordered as an aperitif arrived warm, forcing us to cool it ourselves in an ice bucket; the sommelier, seemingly unfamiliar with the basics of wine service, had us taste it three times before settling on an acceptable temperature. The table service, more broadly, lacked the polish one would expect at this level.
The meal itself left us hungry, both because of the modest portion sizes and a culinary quality that fell short of what the hotel's standing led us to expect. Certain items on the menu — a "Christian sauce," an "AOP croissant" — seemed more a matter of marketing fantasy than culinary reality.
The following morning brought further disappointment: the nattō we were served was no longer fresh, and the yogurt had turned.
At checkout, after sharing our concerns with the manager, we were offered a 20% discount along with a drink we had already ordered. A commendable gesture, but far from enough to bridge the gap between what we received and what we paid — in our view, the stay was worth no more than half the price charged.
We travel regularly in Japan, and this is the first time we've had such a disappointing experience relative to the price. A beautiful setting, but one that would need a serious upgrade in service and dining to justify the category it claims to belong to.
洞爺湖のWEホテルは、湖を一望できる見事なロケーションにあり、それだけでも訪れる価値があります。しかし残念ながら、今回の滞在で高級ホテルとしての謳い文句に見合っていたのは、その点だけでした。
チェックインの際から、驚くべきことに歓迎の心遣いが一切ありませんでした。当日はかなり暑かったにもかかわらず、冷たい飲み物やおしぼりの提供はなく、日本のこの種のホテルでは通常見られるはずのサービスがありませんでした。
夕食は11,000円のメニューを予約しており、これは日本でもかなり高額な部類に入るため、それに見合ったサービスを期待しておりました。食前酒として注文した白ワインはぬるい状態で提供され、自分たちで氷を用いて冷やさなければなりませんでした。ソムリエールはワインの適切な提供温度について基本的な知識がないようで、適温を確認するために3回も試飲させられました。全体として、テーブルでのサービスにもこのクラスにふさわしい丁寧さが欠けていました。
料理自体も、量が少なく物足りなさを感じただけでなく、味の面でもホテルの格に見合うものではありませんでした。メニューにあった「クリスチャンソース」や「AOPクロワッサン」といった名称は、実際には存在しない表現であり、マーケティング上の演出に過ぎないように感じられました。
翌朝もさらに残念な思いをすることになりました。提供された納豆は新鮮ではなく、ヨーグルトも傷んでいました。
チェックアウトの際、支配人にこれらの不満を伝えたところ、20%の割引と、すでに注文していた飲み物の提供という対応をいただきました。誠意ある対応ではありましたが、支払った金額と受けたサービスとの差を埋めるには到底及ばず、今回の滞在は実際に支払った金額の半分程度の価値しかなかったと感じています。
私たちは日本を頻繁に訪れておりますが、これほどの価格でこれほど残念な経験をしたのは今回が初めてです。景観は素晴らしいだけに、その格にふさわしいサービスと食事の質の向上が強く望まれます。

Divine hotel, fabulous food (go for half board). Lovely lovely staff. Super quiet location. The perfect place to unwind.

Although the hotel is above an isolated small local town, the walking areas around the lake are gorgeous and peaceful. The staff members are so very considerate to shuttle and pick up anywhere and anytime. They refer to you by name which makes one feel so cared for and appreciated. I consider this as very close to being one of my best hotel experiences.

Room was gorgeous, staff was amazing and cared so much, onsen was beautiful and food was incredible - highly recommend the WE Hotel and we will definitely return
