A favorite to revisit in the future

This was a luxurious overnight stay on our tour of South Island. Half of our group filled all the rooms at the inn and cabins. Proprietors, Helen and Clint, doubled as hosts/bartenders. Helen treated us to ghost stories and fun facts about the property with our delicious gourmet dinner. Clint regaled us with a brief tour of the tiniest bar in NZ. A beautiful property with its own forest park complete with manicured gardens, cows, alpacas, chickens and geese. Plus, resident duck, Barry, provides the best massages. Would love to stay there again.

Great overnight stay

This was a lovely little surprise. Older style cottages but very clean and comfortable. Great views and such a warm and friendly welcome from the owners. Would definitely stay again. Three new baby alpacas were also new arrivals and were very cute.

2 day stay

The cottage was basic, clean, with a very well equipped kitchen and spacious bathroom. There was a planned power cut for 7 hours in St Arnauds for the day we were there. It would have been helpful if the Hosts had been proactive and phoned us to let us know prior to our arriving, so we could have been better prepared , especially with food, for the day. The local general store was operating on Cash only,. No EFTPOS availalbe. We were very limited what we could purchase, for our day of tramping,
The cottage has beautiful views over the mountain which can be appreciated from the deck. Taking into consideration of the moderate price of the accomodation, an upgrade of the out door furniture is recommended .
An event in the history of the Hotel is well recorded in a folder in the cottage, and was also told to us by the Host, as I registered on arrival. Sensitivity, by the hosts, to the possibilty that guests may have had personal experience with similar tragedy is recommended, and suggest it not being the focus of registration when only just arriving.

A special wee place

We stayed here for two nights while competing in a local event. The cottage we had was very clean. And was cosy warm when the heaters were running. The hosts were very welcoming and accommodating. The views spectacular from the balcony on the cottage. Was pretty cool to watch the weather roll in!

Wonderful stay! Highly recommend!

We had booked Tophouse for three days. It turns out much better than we expected. Cottage are clean, very contained and good layout. New installed bathroom, and has all amenities we needed. Close to National Park. The view from Tophouse are stunning. Host by Hellen who’re warm and understanding in response. We definitely will come back.
