This property could use some love! We arrived to a grade 10 drive up a steep steep hill or option 2 - a steep climb up 120 stairs (not a misprint) with no sign indicating you were actually heading to reception. Once checked in we had to go down the 120 stairs to our car. A very kind receptionist gentleman drove down the hill to help us get our luggage up to our room. So only a 30 stair climb from this point! Needless to say you will get a workout. The room was nice. There was air conditioning which was necessary as it is the hot season here AND we were hot after the climb. We were able to get our car part way up the “driveway”. Most clients did not chance it! All this and we do enjoy our stay in Santa Catalina. We do recommend Panama Dive Center for scuba diving!

Gino was very helpful. Room was ok but tired.
We had to have Gino take our luggage up the hill in his 4 wheel drive truck.
The town is dumpy with narrow dirt road. Dinning was fine. Snorkeling was great, BUT it requires a 1.5 hour ride each way in open water in a 20’ boat. On the way out we sat in the front of the boat. About every 5 minutes the boat smash down with me wondering if the boat and my back were going to break.
Sit in the back of boat!

We loved our stay. Geno our host was so welcoming & helpful. The breakfast was very nice with fresh juice & fruit. The stairs were ok, but may not be great for all travelers. Geno will try to be available to help with luggage if you give him an estimated arrival time. He has great suggestions for restaurants, tours & kayak rentals. We would definitely recommend!!

Nice accommodation with great views

Very nice accommodation with great views. The journey to Santa Catalina is a bit arduous, however, because the last 16 km on the only road that leads to it is a single bumper track and it takes at least an hour to complete this path at walking pace (by the way, you are well advised if you are traveling in Panama by car is absolutely necessary to rent a four-wheel drive vehicle). Once you have finally made the pothole route, the entrance to Sol y Mar is right at the entrance to the village on the right. There, however, the adventure is not yet over. The accommodation and restaurant are located on a steep hill. Below is only a small parking space for maybe a maximum of 10 vehicles. A reception or a reception is sought in vain. You now have the opportunity to park your vehicle here and walk the approximately 100 steps up to the restaurant or you find the courage to venture up the approximately 45° steep approach with your car, which you should not do with a car without four-wheel drive. Upstairs in the restaurant you can find Brian, the owner of Sol y Mar, who then transports guests' luggage upstairs from the parking lot with his pick-up truck. Rooms are rustic with terrace and beautiful views. Pool is very nice. Breakfast is very good. The restaurant menu is limited despite the extensive menu. Best to ask what is currently available. All in all a cool stay but more for younger audiences.

Hotel always recommended

We really liked the hotel. The rooms are simple, clean and very functionally equipped including air conditioning and a safe.
From the pool/bar/restaurant you have a great view of the sea and can enjoy the sunset.
The dinner was delicious and we really enjoyed it. Breakfast is simple but good.
Gino is THE man of the hotel. He is the contact person for all guests, knows everything and gives you lots of information and tips. Thank you Gino, it was great with you. Your customer service is TOP.
Important, as the hotel is on the hill, Gino will carry your luggage up and down. If necessary, he will also take you to the beach. If you are not good on your feet, avoid the hotel.
Santa Catalina is TOP for diving and snorkeling. It is also popular with surfers. Otherwise you don't have to go to Santa Catalina.
