Compact Comfort in the heart of Annecy
The biggest strength of the Mercure Annecy Centre is, without question, its location. Just a few minutes’ walk from both the train and bus stations, and equally close to the Old Town, the lake and its postcard views, it’s perfectly positioned for exploring Annecy on foot. Restaurants, small supermarkets and shops surround the hotel, making it convenient whether you’re staying one night or a long weekend.
The lobby strikes a pleasant balance: cosy yet modern, with a boutique feel rather than a corporate one. Check-in was efficient and friendly, though slightly underwhelming given my loyalty status. I wasn’t proactively offered an upgrade despite availability still showing online. The explanation was that the hotel was fully booked, which I accepted… initially.
The standard room had clearly been refreshed in recent years. The colour palette was calming, the décor tasteful but minimalist. A central bed faced a large flat-screen TV, and there was a small round table with a pouffe-style seat alongside an open wardrobe area incorporating tea and coffee facilities. Everything felt clean and contemporary. However, space was tight. There wasn’t much room around the bed, and the bathroom, though sleek and modern, was extremely compact. Functional, yes. Spacious, no.
The room featured a small balcony overlooking the main street. It was pleasant to step out onto, but really only standing room. A fold-away chair was provided, though there wasn’t much opportunity to use it meaningfully.
After a stroll around town, I returned to reception and gently revisited the upgrade discussion. This time, success.
The Privilege room was noticeably more spacious and immediately more comfortable, even if the décor leaned slightly more traditional. The added touches made a difference: Nespresso machine, mini fridge with complimentary drinks, robes, a proper wardrobe with safe, and ironing facilities. The bathroom was a significant upgrade, larger, modern, with a generous walk-in shower and a separate toilet room. The view overlooked an internal courtyard, so nothing memorable there, but the additional space and amenities more than compensated.
Air conditioning was effective and easy to adjust. The TV was a good size and supported streaming platforms such as YouTube and Netflix. Wi-Fi was simple: free access without login, or enhanced speeds through an Accor account. Using the high-speed option, I consistently recorded around 30 Mbps, more than adequate for work or streaming.
Overall, Mercure Annecy Centre delivers a reliable, comfortable stay in an unbeatable central location. Not all rooms are created equal, and if you value space, it may be worth considering an upgrade from the outset. The staff were polite and professional throughout, and the essentials are well covered.

Disapppointing and not up to standard
On the positive side: the hotel is centrally situated and close to a public parking. One receptionist was amazingly friendly and helpful.
On the negative side: The rest of the reception staff gave the impression that you offended them personally when asking for assistance. My husband was looking for some black tea for the room one evening - not possible as the tea had “been hidden by the house keeping” (we were happy we did not miss toilet paper ).
The room was small and despite an “upgrade” it was the same size as the one we had reserved. The separate toilet was ridiculously small … you had to back in, and my husband could barely manage to have his legs there. At the same time the most horrible and hard toilet paper was provided. Towels were so thin and used that you could hardly dry yourself after a shower … and we were only provided one set of towels. The “fridge” did not cool at all - might as well not have been there. The safe was so used that it was difficult to punch in the code.
On the last day we decided to have breakfast at the hotel out of convenience … but that was way below the standard expected at Mercure hotel !
No vegetables, half-dead fruits, barely any nuts or seeds … but lots of sweet choices !
No plant based milk … unless you asked for it, then it was available. As a vegetarian it was a horrible breakfast.
Considering the high price we paid, and the fact that we are loyal Accor clients for many years now, we were very disappointed and will absolutely not come back next time we visit Annecy.

Avoid at all costs and save some money.
I traveled for over 3 weeks through Europe.
Out of 12 hotels I stayed in 5 of them were part of the All Accor group.
I was horrified at the poor standard of the properties and in some cases the rudeness of staff.
I stayed 2 nights in the Mecure Annecy Centre and to say I was appalled at the condition of a premier room is an understatement.
It is described as having a balcony and chairS (plural) and table so we can enjoy drinks or breakfast there. There was only 1 chair and a table folded up and for good reason as you couldn’t possibly get 2 people on there to eat or have drinks. The separate toilet was so small you had to back into it and then open the door in order to turn around to flush it. The walls of the toilet were covered in brown stains and the light switch had to be continuously flicked to get it to come on.
There is also supposed to be a business desk! There was a tiny table and vinyl covered chair which was peeling and black bits of vinyl came off on anything that touched it.
The safe was not secured to anything so someone could just walk off with the safe.
The entire room was dingy and dirty.
I am seriously unhappy. I paid over £400 and then wasted 2000 reward points.
My friends who were travelling with us experienced even worse issues with their room.
We messaged the hotel and All Accor but have heard nothing.
The one redeeming feature of this hotel was the reception staff. Other than that the entire stay was a total waste of money.
I have stayed in cleaner and more spacious Ibis budget hotels.
Out of 12 hotels I stayed in 5 of them were part of the All Accor group.

The staff were very friendly!
The undeniable strength of this establishment is its staff!
Simple, courteous and benevolent: the desire to please!
What more can I ask?
Apart from that, the property is extremely well located, close to the train station, the alleys of the old town and the lake.
I occupied a simple and pleasant room with a very comfortable bed.
The only problem since we have to find one: the bathtub whose raised rim I had to “overcome” but anyway... it was for morning sports

Hard to find - but central enough
First of all the hotel is not at the level of the 4* which is its classification - a dull renovation: pegs and walls rather dark / classic rooms quite small /
We are looking for decoration first rather than meeting practical needs. Ex: no stool in the bathroom - a bathtub or when you are not very young it is difficult to go up and out and operate the taps - no more tissues - a fridge barely cold and if you put products in they will remain warm (whereas on the leaflet is indicated the presence of a fridge!)
Mirrors everywhere probably to give the illusion of a larger room - the lighting in the room does not illuminate much but in the bathroom the light is very raw - last negative comment: the pillows are soft and the reception has no extra
Pros: the mattress is of good quality , the breakfast served by a pleasant person in small comfortable premises is well varied , with local quality products for the most part - special mention for tea choices: in leaf , we choose , we assemble and create his tea ..and the reception staff as well as the evening staff are pleasant and helpful
