Large, unique hotel.
A unique hotel established in an old convent. An exceptional welcome with a lot of kindness and attentiveness. The rooms are comfortable with quality bedding. For those fortunate enough to have a room with a view of the garden, it is an undeniable plus. The hotel is located 10 minutes on foot from the city center.

Atmosphere.
Hotel with an atmosphere from another time. Wonderful antique parquet flooring. Rooms furnished with antique furniture or at least with references to the last century. It feels like being in a noble house from the late 1800s. Indeed, this building has a history. The only drawbacks in the standard rooms are the absence of a minibar and the lack of air conditioning in any of the rooms we had.

Peaceful stay and unique hospitality.
Having tested several hotels in Besançon, this one undoubtedly ranks among our favorites. Ideally located, the establishment is impeccably clean and decorated with exquisite taste, demonstrating a true sense of detail. Our room and the bathroom were impeccably clean, spacious, and extremely comfortable — especially the bed! Both of us have light sleep, yet we slept like babies thanks to the calm and tranquility of the hotel.
Our stay was all the more magical thanks to the incredible hotel team. Every staff member was exceptionally kind and helpful on a daily basis. We would like to especially acknowledge the reception manager, who was absolutely fantastic and did everything to make us feel pampered at every moment.
After several busy days exploring and walking in the city, the hotel Le Sauvage was the ideal place to relax and recharge. We had a comfortable, peaceful, and particularly pleasant stay. It is with great pleasure that we will return on our next trip to Besançon, and we recommend this hotel wholeheartedly. Thank you to the entire team for your warm hospitality!

Top price-performance ratio
Good price-performance ratio and perfect for passing through to the south. Breakfast was very good and the hosts were nice.

Old World Charm
We stayed at Le Sauvage for two nights in April and enjoyed it very much. It was originally a convent, but has been converted to a hotel. The decor seems to be a combination of old and modern elements. It appears that there is a lot of variation in the rooms with regard to size, furnishings, bathroom layout and air conditioning (or lack thereof). For us that was part of the charm, but I imagine that different rooms could result in different experiences. We had a relatively large quiet nicely furnished room on the second floor that overlooked the hill upon which the Citadel sits. The bathroom was large, with a walk-in shower. The location is excellent for exploring the historic section of Besancon on foot. We did not have a car, but used uber a couple of times when we did not feel like walking. The start of the walk up the hill to the citadel is very close to the hotel. On a nice day this is a fantastic walk with wonderful scenery and vegetation. It's relatively steep but we took it slow and thought it was one of the best walks we have ever been on (and we have been on a lot). The breakfast buffet was good, but nothing exceptional. In fact we thought the choices were somewhat limited for a four star hotel. The dining room itself is very elegant and well laid out, with white tablecloths, and we very much enjoyed that aspect. We did not eat dinner at the restaurant, but it appeared very popular, and I assume reservations are recommended. Also we did not use the spa or pool so are unable to comment on those items. All in all we think Le Sauvage is a very good value, and highly recommend it. We would be happy to stay here again.
