Lots to Like, But Not the 4* Standard
We recently stayed at Camping de L’Argentière and, overall, we did enjoy our holiday. However, there were a number of things that disappointed us, particularly when considering that this is advertised as a 4-star campsite and the price we paid to stay there.
The positives
The entertainment was excellent. The staff worked incredibly hard throughout our stay to make sure there was something for everyone, and their enthusiasm was noticeable. There was a good variety of activities and entertainment, and we felt this was one of the campsite’s strongest points.
The facilities for children were also excellent. The pools were well suited to different ages and the splash pad was a great addition. There was always a lifeguard on duty around the pool area, which was reassuring.
We also really enjoyed the fact that fresh baguettes and pastries were cooked onsite. They were convenient and genuinely fresh, making breakfast particularly easy.
It was generally fairly easy to find a sunlounger, although we felt the pool area could benefit from having more umbrellas, particularly during the hotter parts of the day.
The restaurant and bar were reasonably priced, although we felt the food itself could have represented better value for money.
The location of the campsite was another positive. It was well placed for exploring the surrounding area, with St Tropez and Sainte-Maxime both relatively easy to reach. There was also a beach within around 6km and a large supermarket within approximately 3km. One thing to remember with the supermarket is to get your parking ticket validated at the checkout, otherwise you can end up being charged for parking.
There was also laundry provision onsite, which was useful, particularly for families. Unfortunately, the way some guests used the machines was frustrating. People would put their washing on and then not return for a considerable amount of time after the cycle had finished. On a busy site, this sometimes meant machines were unavailable for hours because clothes had simply been left inside.
The negatives
Unfortunately, it was the toilet and shower facilities that became increasingly frustrating during our stay.
For a 4-star campsite, we felt that the facilities were below the standard we expected. The ladies’ toilets were generally kept clean, but the men’s facilities were noticeably less well maintained. There were also no toilet seats, which certainly didn’t give the impression of a 4-star facility.
The showers were consistently cold during our stay. This was particularly disappointing and became increasingly frustrating over time, especially as the weather became cooler.
There are two main toilet and shower blocks, and one is considerably older than the other near the pool. In our opinion, the older block appeared not to have been updated for many years. In fact, it looked remarkably similar to how I remember it from when we visited as a teenager with my parents back in 2007.
Another major issue was the lack of hot water for washing dishes. Trying to clean pans and cooking equipment with cold water was extremely difficult, and our Fairy Liquid from the UK could only do so much! For a campsite where many people are staying in tents and cooking for themselves, having hot water available for washing up should really be a basic expectation.
The washing machine tokens were also considerably more expensive than those at other campsites we have stayed at.
We were particularly disappointed with our pitch allocation. Before arriving, we provided specific dimensions for our entire setup, including paying for a trailer that we needed to store on the pitch. Despite providing this information, we were allocated one of the smallest pitches on the site. It certainly did not feel as though the pitch was the advertised minimum of 100m², and the space was much tighter than we had anticipated.
The onsite shop was also extremely expensive, particularly for basic items. For example, we saw a 500ml bottle of UHT milk priced at €1.50, despite it still having a Lidl label on it. While we understand that campsite shops will naturally charge a premium, some of the prices felt excessive.
There was also a language barrier at times. We completely appreciate that we were in France and would never expect everyone to speak English, but only a small number of the staff we encountered spoke English to a good level. This occasionally made communication more difficult than we expected at a campsite that is very well advertised and receives several international visitors.
Finally, we found some of the rules around the pool area frustrating. Swimming shorts were banned, but we noticed that the rule wasn’t consistently enforced. We were also told off for walking across the hot floor (which was incredibly hot!) in flip-flops, despite seeing entertainment staff and lifeguards doing exactly the same thing on numerous occasions. If rules are in place, we have no problem following them, but we feel they should be clearly explained and applied consistently to everyone.
Overall
There are definitely things we enjoyed about Camping de L’Argentière. The entertainment team worked incredibly hard, the children’s facilities were very good, the location was convenient and there were some nice touches such as the onsite bakery.
However, as our stay went on, the poor standard of the toilet and shower facilities, lack of hot water for washing up, pitch allocation and inconsistent application of some rules became increasingly frustrating.
Ultimately, we did not feel that the standard of the facilities justified the price we paid for our stay. While we had an enjoyable holiday overall, there are other campsites we have stayed at where we felt we received better value for money and a higher standard of facilities.
Unfortunately, based on our experience, we would not return to Camping de L’Argentière.

Mixed
Nice pool, and a very professional team of lifeguards. The bar team is also very nice, satisfactory entertainment and varied shows.
The playground for children deserves to be refreshed.
Among the negative points I would say that the security service does its job well in the evening, it is rather during the day that acts of incivility were noticed by us: intrusion of young people on the city stadium who make the "law", speak badly and intimidate the little ones - young people who, by the way, are not even from the campsite.
Young people riding scooters at full speed and not accepting any remarks, endangering everyone's safety..
Finally, our neighbors suffered plumbing damage which caused a nuisance for us (smell, huge and noisy vehicle parked in front of our place for two hours), work carried out during meal times even while we were eating outside...no gesture from the campsite and even an unpleasant remark from a maintenance worker who invited us to leave during the day: "when are you leaving today?". Suffice it to say that this is not very pleasant.
We had a cocktail as compensation, which seems quite meager given the inconveniences caused...

Very good stay
The mobile home lacked equipment (poor quality dishes, etc.).
No scissors, for example, because according to the front desk, they were all stolen last year. For a stay costing over 4000 euros, the campsite could still renew the purchase of scissors.
We appreciated the system put in place at the pool to avoid reserving lounge chairs with towels. It's a shame that the Pink Panther music doesn't play more often.
Since this campsite is far from the center and the beaches, it is necessary to have a vehicle.
