Horrible night at the B&B HOTEL Calais Terminal Cité de l'Europe 2-star Hotel
My son and I live in Switzerland and are currently traveling in central France. During our trip, we spontaneously stop at different hotels for the night.
We had previously stayed at another hotel in the B&B Hotels chain, where everything was perfect: a clean room, a pleasant atmosphere, and good service. It is precisely for this reason that we chose this chain again. Unfortunately, this hotel turned out to be the complete opposite.
Our first impression was very bad. Upon entering the room, we found a damp, already used towel left on the sink, as if it had simply been forgotten after the previous guests' departure. From that moment on, we seriously doubted the quality of the cleaning. Moreover, the room contained only one set of bed linens and one set of towels.
The bathroom was dirty. The shower stall had dirt in the corners and along the seams. The toilet paper roll was almost empty, and no spare roll was available in the room.
The room itself appeared very worn. The doors were heavily scratched, the paint was chipped, and many impact marks were visible. The whole place gave the impression that no renovation or serious maintenance had been done for a long time.
The room was located on the ground floor and the window faced directly onto a field. A sign warned of the presence of insects, but no mosquito net was installed. The hotel is therefore aware of the problem with mosquitoes and other insects, without offering a suitable solution to its guests. After a shower, the windows and mirrors fog up, but it is impossible to open the window. We had to open the entrance door of the room in order to breathe some fresh air. In the evening and during the night, opening the window is impossible, as insects immediately enter the room. If one keeps the window closed, the room quickly becomes stuffy.
Upon our arrival, the trash cans located at the entrance of the hotel were already overflowing and waste was scattered around. The next morning, around 11 o'clock, the situation was exactly the same: the trash cans were still full and no one had emptied them.
The breakfast was also very disappointing. It was the worst breakfast of our entire trip. The tables remained long without being cleared, there were crumbs everywhere, and some of the dishes were dirty and greasy. Instead of starting the day in a clean and pleasant environment, we only wanted to leave as quickly as possible.
The reception staff was polite and friendly, and that deserves to be highlighted. On the other hand, when we contacted the assistance service after our check-in to request a room change, no solution was offered to us. In such a situation, we expected at least a genuine attempt to help us.
We chose B&B Hotels because we had already had an excellent experience with this chain. Unfortunately, this establishment does not at all meet the level of quality we expected. That is why we unfortunately cannot recommend it to other travelers.
